Do you think 2 middle names is too many when baby has 2 last names?

I'm 4 days until my scheduled c section and I keep changing the name. I've never been so indecisive about naming babies before but then again I had other input. This time I decided not to tell anyone and name baby on my own. All of a sudden I think I want to name baby girl Halle. Last week it was Mya and for the rest of my pregnancy it was ilah/Isla but I think Nayeli is the middle name.
Anyway her last name is hyphened because of husbands culture. So is Halle (Mya/Ilah?) Nayeli (last name-last name) too much? Hopefully that made sense.

If it’s two middle names and one first name that’s ok I think.
Sarah Marie Rhia Cuthbert-Jones

I know someone who gives her kids ridiculous hyphenated names, middle names and the last name is hyphenated too, they’re all really long, like Evangelina-Persephone Hortensia Petunia Bartholomew-Jacobson so as long as you’re not planning that I think it’s fine!

You might be interested to know that any more than one middle name won't show up on a UK driving license. Any more than one middle name and the others just get reduced to initials. Not that it really matters. I just didn't realise that until recently.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 11/10/2021 10:25

Yeah; as someone with a long name, don’t do it to them. Choose one of the middle names. If you’re set on Nayeli has the middle name; which is lovely, choose between the two first names, and don’t add the one you don’t chose as a middle name.

My name is a few letters short of your suggested name, and it’s a pain officially. Even with electronic forms.

FindingMeno · 11/10/2021 10:24

Not too much and I love it particularly Nayeli

Djifunrsn · 11/10/2021 10:23

There is a lot to be said for keeping things simple.

Choose the first name that you like the best and that she will use.

One middle name only, because that is standard/ordinary.

Surname.

No need to over complicate or over do it. If in doubt, go basic!

35andThriving · 11/10/2021 10:19

I don't think it's too many.

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/10/2021 10:15

I don't see the point of middle names unless the first name and surname combination is likely to be common.

If you give DC1 3 first names, you will want to do the same for subsequent DC

Hydrate · 11/10/2021 09:39

I like several names.

RobinPenguins · 11/10/2021 09:36

Tbh I think two middle names are too much even with just one surname but it’s not like you ever really use them all anywhere unless you’re royalty so I’m sure you can use as many as you like.

Hydrate · 11/10/2021 09:34

No.

ChristmasCrafter · 11/10/2021 09:17

In total, I have 6 names including first, middle and hyphenated last name. Always run out of space on forms which is a pain. But I think two middle names in fine.

IVflytrap · 11/10/2021 09:14

I think it's absolutely fine. None of the first or middle names are massively long. If there are paper form issues (the only issue I can see with having three given names) she can put the initials of one or both middle names in instead of her full name. But most forms aren't paper these days anyway.

HidingFromDD · 11/10/2021 09:11

I’ve got 25 characters in a fairly normal 3 names, they’re just long. It used to be a problem form filling as they often didn’t fit. Don’t remember having an issue recently though so electronic forms may have fixed it

cds5163 · 11/10/2021 07:26

@BikeRunSki
Yes, Nayeli is the middle name. I'm stuck on it. Although I don't see it as a first name.

Is Nayeli a middle name?

So she’d be Mya Nayeli Smith-Jones for example. I don’t think that’s too many names. My siblings, children and I all have 2 middle names. It’s fine. My dad wanted to represent his (not uk) culture, and my mum’s Catholic, so we could have ended up with far more.

Nayeli is a gorgeous name.

R0tational · 11/10/2021 07:05

*not

R0tational · 11/10/2021 07:05

I think the names matter too, nit just the numbers. All your names really are beautiful but together they are a bit tongue-twisterie. Try and pick just one middle name - it may come to you after the birth. Congrats!

saleorbouy · 11/10/2021 07:05

Her friends will call her by her first name and her last name/s used occasionally in school and work.
The middle names will only be used on forms etc. so will rarely get used.
Just do what you prefer, I don't think I mention my middle name more than a couple of times a year!

Shirleyphallus · 11/10/2021 07:03

I think a few middle names are lovely. Can use them when needed or not mention if not necessary

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 11/10/2021 07:03

i wish I hadn't given my DS anything other than first name and surname, nobody cares about the middle names and all they are good for is filling up legal forms with too many words.

InTheLabyrinth · 11/10/2021 07:01

Have a look at some application forms for passports and things. See how bany boxes you get given for names, and if your proposed name would fit.
I have a friend whose (not particularly outragous - think Annabelle Elizabeth Smitheringbottom) name didnt fit the boxes in the days of paper forms, and it caused some issues. Electronic forms may have outdated that problem.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/10/2021 06:58

all not tall

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/10/2021 06:57

Middle names are rarely used so I don't think it matters. School will record tall the names on the birth certificate but not necessarily use them except on exam identification.

cds5163 · 11/10/2021 06:54

Does anyone know what school will do about the names? Will they tell us/her to just choose one of each for her official documents and whatnot? She'll most likely drop the second last name/ my last name. DH only uses one unless its prompted in important paperwork.

I'm from a proper catholic family so have 2 middle names and 2 confirmation names as well as a hyphenated first name ( think anne-marie). To be honest I think the middle names are irrelevant so put them in if you want.
