what do you think of the name Romeo? I really like it and I think the nickname 'Rome' is quite cool and trendy. But also when the baby is toddler and baby the cute nickname 'Ro-Ro' 🤍

@lostfrequencies

Romeo Dunn

Is weirdly the first thing that came to my head Hmm

My dog was named after him. 😆
Fivebeanchilli · 10/10/2021 08:53

I think it's really naff. A bit like calling your child Adonis - it's way too much to live up to. It feels like the sort of name that celebrities get away with but other people really shouldn't try as everyone thinks of the Beckham version...

Aorh · 10/10/2021 08:28

It actually sounds nice phonetically if it didn’t need to fit into society, but I think it’s just too much in real life. I heard one repeatedly being told off in a park/shop once and it just sounded ridiculous.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 09/10/2021 22:46

Fella off Hollyoaks didn't seem to have a problem with it

ilovemykids5 · 09/10/2021 17:38

I wouldn't. How about Remi?

DoucheCanoe · 08/10/2021 19:16

Fair point @goldenrachita.

I know a Grace who's about as dainty as a hippo on ice and a Joy who is quite possibly one of the most miserable people I have met... The irony is not lost, particularly with Joyless

daisypond · 08/10/2021 18:12

I think Romeo is just a bit cringey and embarrassing. It’s not very cool or classy.

bloominglovelyorange · 08/10/2021 17:20

I agree totally @goldenrachita

goldenrachita · 08/10/2021 15:52

This sounds awful but have a good objective think about whether you are an exceptionally good-looking family. It's not a bad name for someone blessed physically but seems unfair on a more average boy. I feel the same about Belle and Beau, but they are so common that the link to beauty gets overlooked or 'forgiven' by a lot of people.

SlidDownTheElephantsTrunk · 08/10/2021 15:38

I know a 16 yr old Romeo. It's a cool name and he's never had the piss taken out of him.

Why take the piss out of Romeo when you can take the piss out of Apple, Bear or Teddy ?

TatianaBis · 08/10/2021 15:34

Sebastian and Orlando are my favourite names from Shakespeare.

Edgar is cool too.

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 15:22

Go for it. He'll probably be in a reception class with 4 Romans, 2 Rowans, 3 Rorys and a few Reubens, a Rufus and a Rafe

KaptainKaveman · 08/10/2021 12:38

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar

I'm not being facetious by the way. I love that name!
I used to teach someone called Balthazar - I kid you not!

If you want something Shakespearian OP, please do not go for Romeo which has been chavitised by the Beckhams. Go for something a little more obscure.

  • Hotspur? quite powerful and thrusting.
  • Edgar? cerebral and kind hearted.
  • Prospero? powerful and with magical powers bit of a twat though
NorthernLion · 08/10/2021 12:30

Doh. I look at Alfa Romeo and automatically hear Alfa roMAYo in my head - never occurred to me that this may be the correct Italian pronunciation of RoMEyo and Juliet...

Bloody Shakespeare.

peaceinourtime · 08/10/2021 11:31

& Roman is also nice.

peaceinourtime · 08/10/2021 11:31

It's nice, go for it. Probably lots of Beckhams associations though.

bloominglovelyorange · 08/10/2021 09:44

I think it will blend in with all the hundreds of Romans (Rome) which is the fastest rising name
If you're wanting something a bit different then avoid this

toastofthetown · 08/10/2021 09:44

I quite like it, but personally would swerve because the Shakespeare association is too much for me. It’s in the top 300 in England and Wales though, so while it’s not super popular, it is in moderate use.

TatianaBis · 08/10/2021 08:57

I’d go for Roman personally.

It’s a lot to live up to in the Shakespearean context and the Beckham connection puts me off.

It’s also pronounced wrong by the British it’s actually Romayo.

loopylou42 · 08/10/2021 08:43

My son is called Romeo he's 15 now and I love his name

DoucheCanoe · 08/10/2021 08:42

Suppress... Although I might be surprised too!

DoucheCanoe · 08/10/2021 08:41

I met a Romeo pronounced Romayo once, quite liked that.

I would also need to surprises the urge to shout "wherefor art thou" if I heard someone shouting Romeo, Romeo at the park Grin

pontiouspilates · 08/10/2021 08:37

I quite like it, it's not too out there but not overly common either..Not keen on 'Rome' as a NN though

daisypond · 08/10/2021 08:14

No.

MintyGreenDream · 08/10/2021 08:08

I like it but then I liked Valentino too so what do I know 😁
