Hideously old fashioned? Due a comeback?

I don't want Juliet or Julie so it's this or something completely different

I do quite like it. It’s classic, elegant, straightforward and not too old-fashioned or dated in my eyes (certainly less common than it was, but that’s not the same as dated).

But (and I know this sounds a bit odd) it’s a very sensible, ‘capable’ sort of name and personally I prefer names that are a bit quirkier and less middle of the road - not ‘out there’ as such, just with a bit more of an edge to them. So I wouldn’t personally pick it, but I’d admire it on someone else.

GreyhoundG1rl · 08/10/2021 11:57

Not sure, really. It's old fashioned, but not in a "classic" way. To me, at least.

coronabeer · 08/10/2021 11:56

I think it's lovely. Classic, elegant, international, easy to spell.

To those who say it's "dated" - just makes it slightly unusual at the moment. My name became super popular when I was about 20 and I quite like it that it isn't a name that instantly places me in a certain age group.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 08/10/2021 11:55

I love it, even if it IS a little old-fashioned. In my native country it'd be pronounced Yulia, which doesn't sound quite so dated, at least to my ears!

toastofthetown · 08/10/2021 11:35

I see it as a bit dated, but it’s still moderately used at the moment. Less dated than Julie though. It’s a fine name though. It gets a huge amount of love on American name forums I’m on, but in general the UK reception is a bit more lukewarm.

peaceinourtime · 08/10/2021 11:29

Very nice, go for it.

millzcrawf · 07/10/2021 23:49

who wouldn't want to have the same name as julia roberts?! 🤍

Love it x

CaffiSaliMali · 07/10/2021 15:57

I like it. Julia's currently ranked 119 in England and Wales with 429 baby girls named Julia in 2019.

So not uber popular but not unheard of either.

BikeRunSki · 07/10/2021 08:58

Love it. The name of a v good friend, who is nicknamed Jay, and Lala as a child.

vampirethriller · 07/10/2021 08:56

I love Julia, my daughter was going to be Julia until she looked nothing like one!

LadyLothbrook · 07/10/2021 08:54

There are 3 Julia's in DDs Year 2 class and all are adorable. It's very a very popular name in the Polish community I believe. I love it.

Saltpepperbutter · 07/10/2021 06:24

I like it and considered it for my daughter, but what put me off was the pronunciation Joow-ya by my husband’s Scottish family. So I would say, depends where you live and if that’s an issue for you,

danascully96 · 07/10/2021 06:00

One of my absolute favs! It’s so jubilant and merry sounding. Much prefer over Julie and Juliet.

alpinerain · 07/10/2021 03:40

I love Julia.

Hullbilly · 06/10/2021 23:44

I knew someone called Juliana at school and quite like the name. Julia is nice enough though.

LizBennet · 06/10/2021 23:43

DramaAlpaca · 06/10/2021 23:22

Gorgeous, underused classic name.

LanisHouseLot · 06/10/2021 23:22

It's lovely.

Hairyfriend · 06/10/2021 23:21

I like it FAR more than others from a similar era and more just Julie. Yes.

I also like Julieanne, BUT, with so many differing spellings, I'd avoid.

Mandofan · 06/10/2021 23:20

I think it’s old fashioned I’m afraid

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/10/2021 23:19

I like it. I know two little Julias so suspect it must be back already.

ManifestingJoy · 06/10/2021 23:18

I like it.
