I think it’s lovely.

Avarua · 07/10/2021 00:19

It's a Maori word too. It means ordinary, or status quo or free from restrictions/rules of 'tapu' (tapu is a kind of social or civic restriction)

quietlyspoken08 · 06/10/2021 23:25

I love it and prefer it for a girl than a boy. I'm not keen on traditional names and like something a bit different. I also like James for a girl rather than a boy.

Kite22 · 06/10/2021 22:21

Which country do you / will they live in ?

I am in England, and Noah is a well known name for a boy, which has been fairly popular for quite a while.
I therefore wouldn't use Noa here, as she will spend her whole life saying "Noa, without an h on the end. Yes, N. O. A. Yes, that is it. Yes, I am a girl / woman. Yes, it is usually a boy's name" EVERY TIME she has to give her name. It would get very tedious.

If you live elsewhere, then that might not happen.

lgfh07 · 06/10/2021 21:35

I think it's lovely. Prefer it for a girl.

DramaAlpaca · 06/10/2021 21:07

I don't mind that version on a girl. Which is very odd as I can't bear the boys' name Noah Confused

Fivebeanchilli · 06/10/2021 20:46

It's popular in the Jewish community near me. I would just assume you were Jewish but I don't have any other opinion on the name really. I don't love it but there's nothing wrong with it. I think it's a bit meh for a girl or Noah for a boy.

alpinerain · 06/10/2021 20:04

I love it. It's a very common girls name in Spain.Smile

Balonzette · 06/10/2021 18:28

I ADORE Noa!

Such a beautiful Old Testament girl's name, so underused, and also a cool strong woman for your daughter to have as a namesake to look up to!

Noah as a boy's name is popular yes, but I really do not think it will be a problem. I'd be really shocked if it was ever an issue. I drastically prefer Noa for a girl than Noah for a boy.

I wouldn't assume you were Jewish, but would wonder whether you might be Jewish or Christian. Wouldn't be shocked if I found out you weren't though.

garlictwist · 06/10/2021 17:13

I'd think you were Jewish. Not that that matters, but something to bear in mind.

Blubells · 06/10/2021 15:56

I like it, and it's patently obvious how to pronounce it.

I agree. I couldn't understand why some posters were wondering how to pronounce it!

LavenderBlue95 · 06/10/2021 14:52

Kate Lawler's baby who is about 9 months old is called Noa, it's lovely and I prefer it for a girl.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 06/10/2021 14:42

I like it probably because I know a Noa (in her mid 30's) & she's absolutely lovely.

NerrSnerr · 06/10/2021 14:41

I think it's a lovely name but agree it could get very annoying.

Doubledoorsontogarden · 06/10/2021 14:41

It’s a fragrance

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 06/10/2021 14:40
