Sapphire is quite razzle-dazzle but I love Saffy for short.

I do think Jade is pretty even if it's seen as a bit naff and 90s at this point. When Bianca and Mick called their daughter Jade back in the early 70s it probably sounded so fresh and unusual.

@BelindaCinder

jade noun (2) Definition of jade (Entry 3 of 3) 1 : a broken-down, vicious, or worthless horse 2a : a disreputable woman b : a flirtatious girl
is this an eighteenth century dictionary you're using?
ladycarlotta · 05/10/2021 11:48

I know a Sapphire and she's the loveliest person. I'd go with that. I think Jade is quite dated now, and so overused over the last quarter of the 20th century that it doesn't evoke the stone any more, which is a shame.

SugarPlum10 · 05/10/2021 09:55

Sapphire, then she has some nn options like Saffy and Fifi. I too think Jade sounds a bit dated now (sorry!)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/10/2021 09:52

@BatFinksWings

Are you the regular sapphire poster? Grin
Careful, you'll get deleted!!
KirstenBlest · 05/10/2021 09:18

Not a fan of either, but of the two, Jade.
Jane is much nicer though. Sapphire is awful.

MrsFin · 05/10/2021 09:04

@MmNc01

They both sound like porn star names, sorry.

I agree.

Seesawmummadaw · 05/10/2021 09:02

The Sapphire that I know gets called Saffy.
Jade is awful.

Agree with pp. Pearl is beautiful

BatFinksWings · 05/10/2021 08:59

Comedycook · 05/10/2021 07:20

Sapphire is a pretty sound. Jade is fine.

How about Pearl, Ruby, Opal?

ifigoup · 05/10/2021 07:13

Sapphire/Sapphira is a biblical name so it has a long history!

SquigglePigs · 05/10/2021 07:12

I think Jade works better on an adult than Sapphire so would choose that one.

Agree with a PP if you like gem names Ruby is lovely.

Aspiringmatriarch · 05/10/2021 07:10

Agree MondeoFan a nickname like Saffy is really nice and doesn't sound too OTT which I think Sapphire has the potential to be.

Chachachawoo · 05/10/2021 07:04

I find Jade a bit dated. Sapphire sounds very stage namey (not in a good way).
Emerald makes me think of mould...
I love Ruby or Pearl as names.

MondeoFan · 05/10/2021 07:01

How about Sapphire nn Saffy

trama · 05/10/2021 07:01

Sapphire!

honeygriff · 05/10/2021 07:00

I like Sapphire Star

Therunecaster · 05/10/2021 06:42

Jade gets my vote

ChipsNCurry · 05/10/2021 06:31

Prefer jade.

Really like emerald too.

Theoldwoman · 05/10/2021 06:14

Jade, just because it's nicer on all ages. At over 50, I wouldn't like to be called Sapphire.

Mixitupalot · 05/10/2021 04:23

Please do use sapphire. It’s my name and you get everyone assuming I am thick as pig shit and dance around a pole for a living!

LaBellina · 05/10/2021 01:31

If you like gemstone names, OP, Esmeralda means emerald in Spanish. Giada is the Italian version of Jade.

Kanaloa · 05/10/2021 01:10

Sapphire, I think it’s nicer. Possibly because I went to school with lots of Jades so Jade seems like the name of a mum rather than a baby now!

MmNc01 · 05/10/2021 01:10

They both sound like porn star names, sorry.
