Love esmerelda. Like sapphire, live sapphira. Jade is ok

peaceinourtime · 12/10/2021 18:47

Jade is nice, its also a male name. I have known males with the name Jade but I would say its mainly a female name rather then a unisex name.

Chakraleaf · 08/10/2021 22:42

Jade is a beautiful name.

Gambianwife · 06/10/2021 18:28

Jade is a beautiful name. I agree with others that Sapphire is a OTT

Sapphire and Jade. Ideal if you're 12 and writing fanfic and need an edgy character who is a thinly veiled Mary-Sue.

Sapphire Star Luna Blake Devine discovered she had extraordinary powers when she was 14 years old. Now, on the eve of her 16th birthday she's forced to choose between her boyfriend, Grayson Streets-McQueen - a brooding vampire, or her powers. Jade Starshine, her best friend, wants Sapphire to follow her destiny as foretold by the elders.

For real humans? No.

BatFinksWings · 06/10/2021 13:52

I think it was agreed that the Sapphire troll had name regret. So, the child exists with the name Sapphire and the op of those threads tried as many ways as possible to think up threads to squeeze the name 'sapphire' in and get feedback on the name

Harmless enough I suppose but does mean that nobody on the baby names forum can see the name without having a flashback Grin

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/10/2021 13:37

So why is it other posters can mention the Sapphire troll and I got deleted?Angry

TheWonderCat · 06/10/2021 12:34

@brightwave

Wasn’t aware there was a Sapphire name troll - Can promise that it’s not me!
There were many many many many many many many many manymanymanymany Sapphire threads a while back.

I like Jade.

Kindertonguehappierlife · 06/10/2021 10:58

immersivereader · 06/10/2021 02:02

Well, you haven't but I have and I didn't accuse the OP of being the Sapphire name troll. Talk about inconsistent moderating Hmm

ColdAsMice · 05/10/2021 12:57

Love sapphire

manhattenrain · 05/10/2021 12:57

Jade! It's a beautiful strong sounding name I can imagine on all ages.

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

“Tbh I'd much rather be a disreputable woman than be named for some of the duller virtues such as faith and patience.”

Yes, me too, but that’s hardly a ringing endorsement.

tickledtiger · 05/10/2021 12:23

Sapphire. I’d use it as a DD name if my DH would ever agree

Rainbowqueeen · 05/10/2021 12:20

Jade. Another one who automatically thinks stripper when I hear sapphire

RuthW · 05/10/2021 12:13

Sapphire as I love Saffi

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/10/2021 12:07

Tbh I'd much rather be a disreputable woman than be named for some of the duller virtues such as faith and patience.

BelindaCinder · 05/10/2021 12:05

Sorry, Merriam-Webster

BelindaCinder · 05/10/2021 12:04

@ladycarlotta

“BelindaCinder
jade noun (2)
Definition of jade (Entry 3 of 3)
1 : a broken-down, vicious, or worthless horse
2a : a disreputable woman
b : a flirtatious girl
is this an eighteenth century dictionary you're using?”
No Merrimam-Webster on line. It honestly does mean 2a to me. Maybe it’s from Regency romances.

StormBaby · 05/10/2021 11:58

They are both stripper names. If I had to choose, it would be Sapphire

astoundedgoat · 05/10/2021 11:57

I think Sapphire has more versatility than Jade.

Pearl and Ruby are also beautiful - I kind of wish I'd put my foot down and called my two daughters those names, but my DH rebelled against Pearl. (We ended up with equally off-piste names, if not worse!)
