Impossible surname

Our surname is Coe.
We’re having a boy in a few weeks and I can’t find a single name I like at all. Everything sounds like a company name!

Nothing with an O sound seems to work. Nor does anything ending in a C or K. Most boys’ names are one syllable and sound ridiculous.

I can see why Sebastian Coe’s mum went for that! It actually sounds alright. It would be on my list if it weren’t for him being well known.

Please help!

DH likes Edward and Isaac but I don’t love either and don’t think Isaac works at all.

I like Theo, Luke and Gabriel but DH doesn’t like them or they don’t work.

Magnus is a great name and goes well with Coe so I would pick that. It isn't that unusual, I know someone who has a baby Magnus.

I like Matthew as well.

Cindie943811A · 05/10/2021 15:18

I’d avoid any name that can be shortened to Ted — folk will mishear it as Tesco
Good luck!

MrsBertBibby · 05/10/2021 10:45

Alasdair
Elias

MrsBertBibby · 05/10/2021 10:06

Aidan and Adrian both sound like & Co.

itsraininghere · 05/10/2021 09:57

If you like Aidan what about Adrian? Probably not as common but goes well with Coe

KirstenBlest · 05/10/2021 09:50

Ah. I didn't know that.
I really like Fraser, but people will say Frasier.
Angus is nice too

Seaview6 · 05/10/2021 09:48

Aidan is also a North East name (St Aidan) and we’re from there so it doesn’t feel like a stretch.

Charles. C Coe - sicko
Reuben - not keen
Seth - don't like
Caspar - sounds silly with the surname, like Kasparko
Aidan - ok
Edward - Edco
Magnus?! - are we brave enough? - it's not that unusual. I like it
Angus - but we’re not Scottish so… - Aidan is irish, are you irish>
Fraser - does this have the same problem as Angus?
Matthew - like

Seaview6 · 05/10/2021 09:43

Oh and I forgot Lucas.

Folks are still suggesting things that can be shortened to Al, Harry and Frank! It’s not as easy as it seems!

I agree Elliott goes but I just don’t like it. Sorry. We can’t have Alexander, Oliver or Peter for family reasons.

Adding to my list Caspar (not sure about the alliteration but I’ll think about it). What about Aidan? I think someone said Hayden and that made me think of it.

So - some front runners (Seb Coe joke there!):
Charles
Reuben
Seth
Caspar
Aidan
Edward
Magnus?! - are we brave enough?
Angus - but we’re not Scottish so…
Fraser - does this have the same problem as Angus?
Matthew

Seb Coe's father and grandfather were both Percy (father went by Peter), both of which are nice, even if not entirely fashionable in 2021.

JBlow · 05/10/2021 06:28

Matthew

Snugglybuggly · 05/10/2021 00:59

katy1111 · 05/10/2021 00:18

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 05/10/2021 00:17

My literary crush is Cormoran (as in Strike) and I consequently wondered if alliterative names might be the way to go?

Christopher Coe
Callum Coe
Caspian Coe
Cillian Coe
Christian Coe
Cassius Coe
Charles Coe
Caspar Coe
Cormac Coe
Cameron Coe

DeirdreRashid · 05/10/2021 00:16

Lemonlemon88 · 05/10/2021 00:09

I think Theodore Coe sounds lovely.

Oliver Coe
Thomas Coe
Jeremy Coe

Ellmau · 05/10/2021 00:04

Jasper
Alexander
Maximilian
Rufus

You don't want anything that sounds like a business name.

OhLordyWhatNow · 05/10/2021 00:03

My children went to school with a family with same sound surname; the boys names were Maximilian (Max) and Archie.
