What's people's thoughts on the name Quinn? Do you think boy or girl?

I only think surname, sorry OP.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 29/09/2021 21:36

I think girl, but only because of the character on Glee...

Lightningrain · 29/09/2021 21:28

I used to think of Quinn from One Tree Hill but I know a boy Quinn and it suits him so I wouldn’t automatically assume now if I saw it written down.

I like it for both. I don’t think the word quim is widely used anymore and there are loads of surnames that are used as a first name (Irish or otherwise) so I wouldn’t let that put me off if I liked a name.

BananaPB · 29/09/2021 21:27

I think of Harley Quinn

CeeceeBloomingdale · 29/09/2021 21:26

I don't like surname type names but agree with PPs, I see Quim when it is written so either boy or girl would likely suffer teasing due to this.

Chunkymenrock · 29/09/2021 21:26

Girl. Sounds like quim.

Cotswoldmama · 29/09/2021 21:26

Love I think it's fairly unisex but I prefer it for a girl.

thingymaboob · 29/09/2021 21:25

I know a boy Quinn (13) and a girl called Quinn (4). Both sets of parents are the pretentious type. Name is unisex and a pretty rubbish name IMO.

Xiaoxiong · 29/09/2021 21:25

I know a boy named Quinlan, Quin for short. Lovely name.

WimpoleHat · 29/09/2021 21:24

Boy. There was a character in Homeland called Quinn. (It was his surname, though.)

SuperCaliFragalistic · 29/09/2021 21:23

@DramaAlpaca

It's yet another ordinary Irish surname which has been appropriated as a first name.

As a first name, it's odd on a boy and awful on a girl.

It sounds like an American 'mean girls' name .... not for me....only as a surname

MissBPotter · 29/09/2021 21:23

Not great for a boy but particularly bad for a girl. Surname.

GaraMedouar · 29/09/2021 21:22

Too close to ‘quim’

I know a 6yo Quinn but in OZ where I think it’s a more popular boys name.

mnahmnah · 29/09/2021 21:21

We nearly used Quinn for our boy. Have you heard the Bob Dylan song ‘Quinn the Eskimo’? Love it. Make sure it’s his version though!

loobylou44 · 29/09/2021 21:20

Boy. I know someone with a son called Quinn, he's 13.

WheresYourSnickers · 29/09/2021 21:19

I think girl, and I like it.

Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 29/09/2021 21:18

I quite like it! The Mighty Quinn and Daria's sister are the only references I can think of. I think it could be either boy or girl, it's not established enough as a first name, or similar enough to other names to be one or the other.

Dahliadelight · 29/09/2021 21:18

Boy.

coffeepleeease · 29/09/2021 21:18

I think it's unisex. I personally prefer it for a girl

Pretendingtosmile · 29/09/2021 21:17

I know of a girl Quinn but I think it sounds more like a boy's name

MrsBungle · 29/09/2021 21:17

Boy. I like it.

Hellocatshome · 29/09/2021 21:17

I would think girl.
