Hello, expecting a boy in January and we are torn between two names.
Bram Elliott
Casper Jack

Any thoughts would be good

I have a 3 year old Caspar and it’s definitely getting more popular - I know 3 others of a similar age.

manhattenrain · 01/10/2021 03:50

Casper

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/09/2021 16:20

Bram is lovely - underused in this country but simple and probably unlikely to be misspelt. It's been used as a standalone name here and internationally enough that I'm not sure that everyone is even aware it was originally short for Abraham (so I don't think you need that on the BC unless you want it).

Casper is nice enough but slowly rising in popularity - but not yet common enough so he'll likely sometimes have to deal with misspellings (Caspar/Kasper seem also fairly well used).

Of the two I personally prefer the simplicity/nickname free elegance of Bram.

peaceinourtime · 30/09/2021 10:14

Stoker

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/09/2021 07:12

I think Bram is a great name.

CakesOfVersailles · 30/09/2021 00:15

I like Casper.

Bram I would assume was a nickname for Abraham.

I like Elliott as a middle name.

FartnissEverbeans · 30/09/2021 00:11

I taught a lovely Bram and I like the name a lot but when I googled it apparently it means fart in Scottish Gaelic?!

We’re Scottish ourselves so took it off the list!

TatianaBis · 29/09/2021 11:41

Caspar spelt properly.

Can't stand Bram.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 28/09/2021 23:04

I love Bram.

Prefer Caspar to Casper.

WeasilyPleased · 28/09/2021 22:21

Bram is a great name whether short for Abraham or not.

Flamingosnbears · 28/09/2021 21:29

Bram Elliott flows the best out of your choices.

RichPetunia · 28/09/2021 21:26

Neither, they are both awful. The middle names are much better.

GloomAndDoom · 28/09/2021 19:23

I hate Bram. It makes me think of All Bran.

I like Kaspar or Casper.

Wagsandclaws · 28/09/2021 19:22

I like them both, I have a Ds who is 8 and called Caspar - it suits him and I haven't met lots of others but as was mentioned upthread I think it's getting more popular.

Tiredteacher100 · 28/09/2021 19:07

I love Bram. It's quite a well known Dutch name I think

toastofthetown · 28/09/2021 18:57

I think of the references mentioned the Bram Stoker reference is stronger than the ghost. Probably as Casper is much more popular. Combining Casper, Caspar, Kasper and Kacper puts the name at 114 in popularity, and it's rising. There were only six Brams born last year, but I don't think Bram Stoker is overwhelming. People will probably comment, but quickly get over it. Personally I like both. Could you wait until he is born and see if one suits him better then?

Tal45 · 28/09/2021 18:28

@starrynight21

All I can think of is Bram Stoker and Casper the Friendly Ghost.
Agreed.
tiggerwhocamefortea · 28/09/2021 18:14

*Bram

tiggerwhocamefortea · 28/09/2021 18:14

I like Beam assuming your surname isn't Stoker but I don't think it goes with Elliot- also I think the convention is one "t" for Elliot unless it's a surname

Winterfellismyhome · 28/09/2021 18:12

Caspar jack sounds like cactus jack. Bit of an old school reference though so you'll probably be fine

NoddingTulip · 28/09/2021 18:07

Bram Elliott is lovely.

TheVanguardSix · 28/09/2021 18:06

Oh Bram Elliott for sure! What a name!

bigginswiggins · 28/09/2021 18:04

Bram is nice, though it feels like a short version of a full name and that something is missing for an official name. As pp says.
Not Casper - for a ghost or a cat.

elfran · 28/09/2021 18:02

I love Bram, was on my list but single-syllable names didn't work with the surname (and we had a dd). I think it's distinguished on an adult and cool on a kid.
