Baby name suggestions for surname Darling

My partner and I haven't found out the sex of the baby but he or she is due in a few weeks and we are still stuck with baby names... we don't really like the typical UK names but don't want something too out there that he/she will be bullied over.

Send me your suggestions!

Darling is a fab surname, don’t change it!

Amdone123 · 29/09/2021 10:07

I think it's a great surname. Don't change it ! I do love the names Eleanor and James though. Elizabeth Darling is beautiful too.
Can I throw Valentine back in the ring??!!!

A bit confused as to why many people seem so against using the name of an Australian river? Am I missing something...?

@user1477391263

OP, with a surname like "Darling" you really need something that is not too "out there" and definitely not anything that functions as a noun. Leaf Darling, Love Darling.... really? These sound pretty silly. And the Darling River is a well known Australian river, you absolutely cannot use "River."

To be honest, I'd consider using the surname "Rivers" in this case. If I was really set on the surname "Darling," I'd go for something fairly classic like Eleanor or James or something like that.

Rather rude, suppose with asking on mumsnet I should have specified positive replies to avoid those like you.

Clio Darling
Greta Darling just popped in to my head.

For boys I think Howie with Darling makes it less ''tip toed'' somehow, and to ''man up'' Grin darling I like it paired with Victor.

Victor Darling

A tricky challenge. When you say not 'traditional' do you mean that classic royal vibe?

How about Irish names known in the UK.

Finn Darling

Maeve Darling

I know you said you don't like classic names but Dominic Darling and Leo Darling are what I would consider European / Catholic classics. Do you like those? And for girl equivalents, Mary Darling sounds lovely. Marianne Darling, Enya/ Anya Darling

Maggie Darling has a ring to it. I think Darling softens up a potentially 'solid' unfrilly name. Lois Darling eg

Olwen Darling sounds good but I think that something like Lucinda Darling could sound like nearly a joke posh name.

Shame I just saw that you don't want traditional names.

I wish my surname was Darling 😂

PoshWatchShitShoes · 28/09/2021 08:19

Such a lovely surname.

I love Alice, Victoria, Beatrix, Elizabeth.

Edward Darling is a great name 👏

Henry is a fabulous name, although there are 3 of those in DC's class of 18 children!

Wendy?

Sorry, had to be done.

I don't know if it's already been said, but my first thought was Emily. Emily Darling sounds so lovely to me.

I like River, Scout and Lindon from your list. Leif would be good too.
I'll suggest Maeve, Rowan, Maria, Laurence, Adam, Rebecca, Robin, Fia.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/09/2021 07:48

River Darling - lovely but contentious if you aim for more children. Stick it in the middle
Forrest Darling - lovely
Reign Darling - awful
Love Darling - not a name
Scout Darling - meh, just not my taste
Leaf Darling - if you insist, I'd go with Leif
Olive Darling - ok
Thorn Darling - no.

Bodhi Darling - good
Wilder Darling - no
Winter Darling - love
Lindon Darling - no
Major Darling - dear lord no
Lennon Darling - cute

sashh · 28/09/2021 07:47

It surely has to be Wendy, or Michael or John.

I know it has already been said but you cannot waste that name.

Also Grace.

Maybe not Kevin, although will your child know about Blackadder?
