Hi lovely Mumsnetters,
I am expecting DD2 in a few months and I have narrowed down all the names I love.

Can you help me by telling me which ones are your favourite/least favourite?
DD1 is Lucy.
Smile

Sylvia
Francesca
Jemima
Simone (I’m French)
Sabine
Olivia
Hazel
Eliza

I want a name that’s a bit more out there than Lucy and that I love just as much.

Lucy and Sylvia
Lucy and Alice
Lucy and Clara

Daisy62 · 27/09/2021 23:37

How about Clara?

imageforu · 27/09/2021 23:04

Jemima is lovely. I love Olivia too, even if it's popular (I've hardly met any!). I prefer Elizabeth to Eliza which I find a bit harsh.

Nannyamc · 27/09/2021 23:02

Choose Mary a lovely name used in my family. My nan mam sister niece grand niece . Simple and lovely

Yika · 27/09/2021 23:01

I love Simone and it's less usual than the others.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/09/2021 22:57

If you're looking for anything remotely out there forget Olivia. It's been at or near the top of the name charts for years.
You may also want to consider that Lucy may feel a bit short changed if she has a mainstream name and her sister has a more unusual name.
Out of your list I Love Simone and Eliza.

Janedamaz · 27/09/2021 22:51

@RandomWordGenerator no Hazel doesn’t work in French but it is easily pronounceable. I find bilingual names I like either already in use in my family (Eloise, Margot), too match y with Lucy (Alice) or a bit too popular for my taste (Anna, Emma). So feeling a bit stuck!

So tricky @ODFOx and so interesting as well!

Juliette is very old fashioned in France but Juliet not so much here. Sabine is old fashioned in France, Felicity VERY old fashioned but lovely here etc

It’s a logistical nightmare!

I like your idea of leaning more towards my heritage this time!

Names which are 'old fashioned ' in France may not be in the UK and vice versa. Tricky! 😀

ODFOx · 27/09/2021 22:15

As you are French, it was kind for you to choose the Anglicised spelling of Lucy. Either Sylvie or Elise would be a gorgeous match and a nod to your heritage.

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 27/09/2021 22:08

Jemima
Frances would sound nice with Lucy, although it’s probably too weird if you are from France yourself. You could always use Frankie for a Francesca.

Biggleton · 27/09/2021 22:01

Eliza

RandomWordGenerator · 27/09/2021 21:55

Hazel is lovely, but presumably you have family in France, does it work well in French? (Might not matter to you even if not).

rslsys · 27/09/2021 21:48

DD2 is called Lucy, she has a daughter called Eliza!

CormoranStrike · 27/09/2021 21:40

Simone all the way.

notacooldad · 27/09/2021 21:39

I was going to say Charlotte before I saw tour list.
Jemima or Simone are my favourites out if your choice.
Hazel is my least favourite my a country mile!

AnyaMoondial · 27/09/2021 21:35

Lucy and Hazel sound pretty great together.

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2021 21:08

I love Simone and Hazel, and like most of the rest.

Francesca is my least favourite and it's too fussy to go nicely with Lucy.

Janedamaz · 27/09/2021 20:51

Oh and Jemima, love Jemima still

Thank you everyone, very helpful!
I dislike the nn Fran so will abandon Francesca.
I was afraid Sabine might feel a bit dated as a PP said so will reconsider.
Sylvia, well I love Sylvia but don’t like Sylvie which is very dated in France - to me it’s an entirely different name though, a bit as if Julia’s were called Julie. Is Sylvie a natural nn for Sylvia?
Olivia I love but so does all the Uk since it’s currently number one. Might be enough to put me off.

That leaves me with Eliza and Hazel. Both great options. Simone is lovely but she might find it old fashioned. I keep it in the mix though see how I feel in a few weeks!

Jemima or Eliza. I've always found Hazel a bit 'fey'!

Noshowwithoutpunch · 27/09/2021 20:39

Eliza is by far my favourite.
Short, sweet and lovely with Lucy.
It also has a cool but vintage vibe.

My least favourite is Francesca. I hate the inevitable Fran nn.
Sabine also feels a bit dated to me. Not in a good way. A bit 90s.

SpeckledyHen · 27/09/2021 20:39

Love Simone , don’t like Jemima at all, sorry.

GrandPrismatic · 27/09/2021 20:37

Francesca then Eliza

MissyB1 · 27/09/2021 20:35

Simone
Sabine
Hazel

In that order.
