@MeredithGreyishblue

Even though it wasn't about her, I always hear, "she is a TART!" after it!
😂
Babynameq21 · 26/09/2021 22:12

@jackstini

If you want that pronunciation I would spell it Avelyn or Avelynne
The first one could be an option! Not a fan of made up names usually though Hmm

My brain read it in a Liverpool accent and I couldn't work out why until the first poster said Bread.

I'm 37 and my dad was a big fan. I think I must be around the cut off for remembering it, as my younger brother always looks blank when me and Dad ask each other "where's me dinner?"

@speakout

I think if you have to start a post discussing how to pronounce a baby's name then that highlights a lifetime of confusion, mispelling and having to correct others for that child. It is bothersome. I know that from experience.

I gave my children easy names with no ambiguity.

Regretfully I agree! I'm actually quite conservative with baby names but I have loved this since I saw it in a book as a teenager so was hoping it would work - but doesn't look like it!

Ave - align
Like the Bread character - how could you not! It's a lovely name though it's not a negative association more a fondly remembered cultural reference

WaitinginVain · 26/09/2021 21:59

Definitely Avva-line.

Babynameq21 · 26/09/2021 21:59

As I thought - so many different opinions! I don't know it from Bread (showing my age!).

I first saw it in a book many years ago and had never heard of it so in my head it's pronounced AYVE-LIN (shortened to Ava) as that's how I read it at the time BUT I've since looked it up and apparently it is more like avva-lin which I'm not so much a fan of.

Wondering if I can just choose how its pronounced BUT also don't want to subject baby to a life of people pronouncing their name wrong so i think regretfully its a no-go!
