I also read the name in a book as a teenager. I've always pronounced it 'Av-uh-leen' but the uh is subtle, so it's sort of a cross between Av-uh-leen and Av-leen.

I love the name but DH vetoed it as be thinks it sounds too close to 'have a lean'.

Av-a-line to rhyme with Have-a-line would be my first guess but wouldn't be surprised by the others.

I'd have said "Avva-line" too. (Like 'Have a' without the 'h', then line like washing line).

I went to school with an Aveline! She pronounced it 'ava-leen' and had no problems as far as I knew.

Ohh, it's such a lovely name though!

You can pronounce my name in different ways and I just respond to them all. If someone's asks me how I say it I tell them, it's no big deal!
