A middle name for Erin or Iris

Wingingitsince2018 · 25/09/2021 21:30

After going though what seems like 10000000 names DH and I seem to have settled on either Erin or Iris for DD due in January.

However having one of us seeming vetoed every name we can think I'd we are stuck for middle names for either.

Our surname starts with Law and our DS has an unusual first name but middle is Thomas, so not opposed to classics I just can't find one that flows nicely! No family names to use.

Any ideas welcome!

Iris is a gazillion times nicer than Erin.

I would do Iris Erin.

ILoveShula · 28/09/2021 22:43

Iris is much nicer than Erin

Not Iris Louise or she'll be ILL

Navian · 28/09/2021 22:10

@Wingingitsince2018 we just need to be grateful it isn't our first name Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 28/09/2021 06:05

If not Ruth, what about Rachel or Rebecca.

Wingingitsince2018 · 27/09/2021 23:41

It will 100% not be Ruth @Navian as that is also my middle name and passionately hated!

I agree @yikesanotherbooboo that middle names seem meant for family names but not onky would I not want to cause any upset, but none of the family names are ones that I would never actually want to use Blush

I agree that a longer middle name is probably better and like the suggestion of Iris Emilia/Olivia

I though choosing DSs name was difficult but this is a whole new level

I regret not just picking family names as middle names. At the time I didn't want to hurt anyone ( mil) but looking back the association to family is, for me, the main thing. Middle names don't have another purpose.

Erin is nice but I don't think it works with your surname. It's quite a simple short name so why didn't you go for something a little more elaborate. Imogen/Isabella/charlotte and then Erin as the middle name.
I don't like iris.
Please not Ruth, it's my middle name and possibly the most horrific name you could come up with 😂
@EekThreek yes I hadn't thought about avoiding a double EEL or ILL! Definitely can't have a D name either for Erin
You only need to worry about initials if they form something clearly rude, such as Florence Ursula Christie. Then again Boris Johnson seems to have done alright...

If you discount names simply to avoid the initials making any word or any established abbreviation then you are making an already tough job even tougher.

mellongoose · 26/09/2021 16:15

Iris Flora
Erin Rose

randomuseragain · 26/09/2021 14:16

I think a longer middle name like Beatrice or Frances

Merry0409 · 26/09/2021 13:29

My daughter, Erin's middle name is Louise, its a lovely name xx

duckoutofwater · 26/09/2021 13:09

We have an Iris Lydia but also considered Amelia and Olivia for middle names Smile

EekThreek · 25/09/2021 22:04

@Wingingitsince2018 our eldest is DES and the middle one is GPS. Initials don't really bother us... Hopefully they don't bother them when they're older! Blush

I think Imogen sounds lovely with both those names and your surname.

brewstew · 25/09/2021 21:53

I think loads of names go with Erin or Iris
Elizabeth
Imogen
Phoebe
Kate
Clementine
Catherine
Frances
Charlotte
Beatrice
Edith
Sophia
Matilda
Victoria
Olivia

Wingingitsince2018 · 25/09/2021 21:52

The issue is we don't have a long list that we both agree on! We do both like Imogen but we're not sure about either a double N ending or a double I start.

Florence is going on the list!

Erin or Iris
Louisa
Elizabeth
Claire
Mary
Maria
Isabella
Annabelle

bravelittlepenguin · 25/09/2021 21:48

Florence works with either

Or:

Erin Ivy
Erin Violet
Erin Ruby
Erin Daisy

Iris Amber
Iris Jean
Iris Charlotte

I actually think most names go with Iris or Erin so just pick another from your long list
