Mey/Mei

Would you pronounce it like May or My?

Which one do you prefer if you had to choose?

May. My school friend was Chinese and had Mei in her name, pronounced May. Very pretty name.

Boombadoom · 21/09/2021 21:33

May.

What about mae?

iwantknowyouropinion · 21/09/2021 21:32

@hairybakers

Goodness me, I can't stand when people plan the nicknames for the child who hasn't even entered the world yet. A nn should be organic, and maybe influenced by the character of the little one.
Due to tradition we'll be naming her after my DH's deceased mother who had a long, non-English name so her nickname is important to us as it will be used for everyday use.

I would pronounce both as May

If I had to say, I would prefer Mei

My name in Mandarin pinyin is Ai- Mei-Li, which means Love Beautiful

PeriChristmas · 21/09/2021 21:32

May.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 21/09/2021 21:28

I would pronounce both may and prefer mei.

drigon · 21/09/2021 21:28

Or some variant of Megan?

hotmess19 · 21/09/2021 21:27

Mey autocorrects in my phone to meh Grin

Blindleadingtheblind · 21/09/2021 21:26

Is her longer name going to have a made up spelling too? Meyson perhaps?

Mei is fine. Mey is awful.

Vemba is a lovely name as well. Just imagine calling that out across a playground: No! Vemba!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 21/09/2021 21:20

NannyR · 21/09/2021 21:19

Does the "long" name actually start with a may sound? If so, I would just use the letters that make up that sound. I'm struggling to think of a Me- name that has a may sound, but if, for example it was something like Meyanna, then Mey would be a logical nickname.

SuePream · 21/09/2021 21:18

I'm not overkeen on Mei or Mey. How about Eypril or Joon instead.

Mymapuddlington · 21/09/2021 21:17

Kids at school will change it and she will end up Mimi or something anyway

Antinerak · 21/09/2021 21:16

You're planning the exact, awkward spelling of a nickname for your daughter? Weird. 'May' would work even if her name doesn't have 'ay' in.

Mymapuddlington · 21/09/2021 21:15

Megatron

😂😂😂

ElephantCup · 21/09/2021 21:14

@WoozySnoozy

Perhaps I should have mentioned that it will be a NICKNAME for a longer name that starts with the letters M-E (hence our preference for the E spelling).

Yes this would have helped. What's the longer name?

Megatron
Mymapuddlington · 21/09/2021 21:14
