Ted as full name?

We like Ted as stand alone name, what do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Definitely not!

Theodore, Edward, Thaddeus are such lovely names and give much more options.

I'm not a fan but it's better than the ridiculously twee Teddy.

Cyberworrier · 20/09/2021 16:55

I'd say it's pretty different to the Ben/Benjamin comparison. Ted is sweet on boys and nice on men, but there could well be personal or professional reasons why someone would want to be able to use a less cutesy name. Why would you potentially limit your child's options by using the nickname as a name, particularly with a name like Ted. Edward and Theodore etc are nice names (and offer alternative nicknames in case your baby feels they've grown out of Ted at primary or secondary)

Of course you can call him Ted.
He may later acquire a nickname such as Edward!

Aquamarine1029 · 20/09/2021 16:51

Absolutely not.

EllieSattler · 20/09/2021 16:49

I think its fine. My family had conniptions when a relative gave their child a 'nickname' - think Ben not Benjamin, Jamie not James, that sort of thing. Said child is now an adult and it hasn't done them any harm at all.

I knew an adult Ted. Lovely man, emigrated to Australia. He may have been Edmund or something but he was always, always Ted. I know a young Ted too, he's really cool :)

I really don't like it.
I don't like Teddy either. I much prefer Edward.

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 20/09/2021 16:45

Absolutely no. Name him Edward, Edwin or Theodore and call him Ted. I know someone who was given a nickname instead of the full name and he has found it embarrassing.

RuthW · 20/09/2021 16:42

Dreadful in my opinion. Sorry

Pollythecat15 · 20/09/2021 16:40

I like it.
One of my cats is called Ted, but I would happily name a child that if I was to have another boy (and hadn't already given it my cat).
