Thoughts on this name? I realise some do not like ‘nicknames’ as first names, but that does not really bother us! We have really struggled to find a name, but think we have found one we both agree on but just wanted to get some last minute feedback!

Surname is welsh, Gw……

I wouldn't have thought 'wet' or 'infantile', but it seems a bit of a shame when it's so very obviously nicknamey and there are so many lovely names out there, including plenty Tilly can be short for. Tilly Swinton doesn't at all have the same kind of ring to it as Tilda Swinton.

Something like Polly, by contrast, has much more of a 'real name' feel to it (not quite sure why this is).

helpforayounggirl · 18/09/2021 20:32

I think it's beautiful. Really beautiful. Do it.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 18/09/2021 20:28

I think it's fine if a bit wispy. Would you be against using Matilda?

Ginghamize · 18/09/2021 20:27

It's not a real name, Matilda is though.

KirstenBlest · 18/09/2021 20:25

I don't like it. It sound like a cash register adjective.

If your surname is what I think it is, why not pick a pretty Welsh name instead.

Tesni or Teleri, or Mali or something

LesLavandes · 18/09/2021 20:18

Matilda shortened to Tilly is nice

DismantledKing · 18/09/2021 20:16

It’s a budgie’s name

MonkeyPuddle · 18/09/2021 20:03

I have a Matilda who we call Tilda. Chose the full name cos then she’s got options when she’s older. Tilly seems a name for a girl less than 12, I can’t picture an adult Tilly.

HungryHippo11 · 18/09/2021 19:58

Its nice enough. I do prefer Tilda, it sounds a bit stronger and more substantial.

cptartapp · 18/09/2021 19:36

Well, doesn't seem like a proper name. Really wet and infantile.

trama · 18/09/2021 19:28

I find it very weak and wet TBH.

DramaAlpaca · 18/09/2021 19:19

I like Tilly, but I prefer it short for Matilda for a more grown up option.

MrsPumpkinSeed · 18/09/2021 19:17

I love it.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 18/09/2021 19:17

Great name but I would go with Matilda and shorten to Tilly so she has a choice when she’s older.

Quercus3 · 18/09/2021 19:10

It's sweet

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/09/2021 19:03

I much prefer the name Matilda with Tilly as a nickname.

Immaculatemisconception · 18/09/2021 19:00

I don't like it at all, sorry.

chasingmyrainbow · 18/09/2021 18:59

I like it a lot! Our surname begins with T and doesn't work with Tilly but it was a strong contender for us. 😊

toastofthetown · 18/09/2021 18:56

It's fine. Feels a bit insubstantial, but there's nothing wrong with it.
