Definitely due a resurrection

BonyN · 21/09/2021 06:26

I adore the name. It's my dd's middle name and if dh didn't hate it so much it would have been her actual name.

Undertheoldlindentree · 21/09/2021 06:06

Sorry, I can see it's a classic but do find it extremely dull (I like a lot of other old names, just not this one)..

BeautifulTulips · 21/09/2021 05:48

Love it! A friend called her daughter Mary and I think it'a beautiful name. Slightly unusual but not eccentric

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 21/09/2021 04:48

Yes I am also in the hard no camp. Every other granny and nun in Ireland is a Mary, so its very much an old Catholic name to me. And also your Mary is yer fanny, in certain circles. Grin

Elisemum · 21/09/2021 01:15

@brightwave im also shocked by the support here. It’s such an “old” and “smelly” name. While it’s absolutely ok on a granny, older auntie or some church lady why would anyone want to name a little baby Mary? It’s a weird one becouse the name itself is nice enough just never ever for a baby.

MyPatronusIsACat · 21/09/2021 00:43

@brightwave MARY ??? OMG no. Shock As a few other posters have said, too frumpy, old fashioned, Churchy, and in some quarters, it's slang for a woman's lady bits.

I am shocked at the amount of support for it. I would NEVER call a little baby girl MARY.

mydailymailhell · 21/09/2021 00:43

Absolute classic name and rarely used these days so it will be unique. It also transcends age and class.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 21/09/2021 00:42

It's my middle name and I absolutely hate it. It just seems so o!d fashioned. My first name is not much better either.

MyPatronusIsACat · 21/09/2021 00:42

Shock Noooo.

Elisemum · 21/09/2021 00:34

Hairy Mary, Virgin Mary- that’s what’s she would be called :( anyway this is a name absolutely reserved for grannies or some church obsessed people I think.. it’s ok name but there are hundredths of better names. I wouldn’t do it to a child , I’m sorry OP

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 20/09/2021 21:44

I think it’s really lovely. But be aware that it means vulva in some parts of the country.

daisypond · 20/09/2021 21:38

It’s a great name - simple, elegant, pedigree and really refreshing these days.

BeeandG · 20/09/2021 21:32

Really like it. My sister is a Mary and it's my dd1 middle name in honour of her. Solid strong name.

adrianmolesmole · 20/09/2021 21:27

Bit of a 'Jane' name but not unattractive.

Enough4me · 20/09/2021 20:27

Prefer Maria, Marie, Marianne or Marianna.

Yogsgirl · 20/09/2021 20:27

It's a classical biblical name. I know an 11 year old Mary and it really suits her.

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 20/09/2021 20:25

I absolutely love it! I also love Margaret.

We very nearly used Maria for one of ours, which is another option. We liked Maria on its own and also because it had some NN potential, which Mary may not really.

reprehensibleme · 20/09/2021 20:21

Great name. Classic, underused, no issues with spelling or pronunciation.

SirChenjins · 20/09/2021 20:20

I love it - classic, classy and not too popular.

bigbeatmanifesto · 20/09/2021 20:19

It was on my list for DD beautiful name.

manhattenrain · 20/09/2021 20:19

Mary is a beautiful name.

LizzieAnt · 20/09/2021 20:03

Love Mary

mummatomason · 20/09/2021 19:38
@mummatomason oh yes - I remember the ' Mary had a little lamb' jokes at school now you mention them! I used to get asked where my lamb was quite a bit. It clearly didn't scar me though! Every name comes with potential playground jokes I think? I don't remember ever hearing any 'virgin Mary' jokes - and I never even got to play Mary in the school nativity!
Yer exactly, kids will always find a way to tease about every name, just wanted to let the OP know about my experience personally with the name, and hairy mary come to me after i posted, used to drive me mad.
I had the opposite, i was always picked to be mary in the school play and i was mega shy so it was a nightmare Blush.

But i do get alot of compliments now im older on my name. I think it suits all ages too Smile
