Alice.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 17/09/2021 19:49

Prefer Alice. To me, it's a timeless classic.
It's strong, elegant and has a magical element to it probably due to Alice in Wonderland which I love Grin

Lois is a nice name. It has more of an edgy feel and is definitely more of a modern name.
Not keen on how it looks written down.

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/09/2021 19:43

Both are lovely but I'd probably go with Lois.

Sagaz · 17/09/2021 19:39

Prefer Lois

simonthedog · 17/09/2021 19:38

Lois

daisypond · 17/09/2021 19:35

I’m not keen on Lois at all. Alice is better but I can’t really warm to it.

mediciempire · 17/09/2021 19:25

Lois

peaceinourtime · 17/09/2021 15:29

I love the name Lois, it feels like it due for a comeback were as Alice feels like it has been around forever and is dull and tired.

NoSquirrels · 17/09/2021 13:44

Lois.

I also love Lowri.

Alice is fine. I’d go for the Welsh spelling (a theme in my bias!)

GoodnightGrandma · 17/09/2021 13:42

Lois. More unusual than Alice.

thetesdybears · 17/09/2021 13:41

Lois! I really like it and it's not overly popular 👍

I really don't like Alice it always gets much love on Mumsnet though.

Linnet · 17/09/2021 13:37

@LowbrowVictoriana

I always feel Lois is not a real name

But you're wrong, because it is 🙄

I know Lois is a real name but to me it always sounds a bit unfinished or like a nickname, I can’t quite put my finger on why.
Fivefourthreetwo · 17/09/2021 13:32

Lois

BiBabbles · 17/09/2021 13:10

Lois, mostly because I prefer the sound of either pronunication, the meaning, and history, but I'll admit my bias from having a strong negative association with Alice even though that person ended up changing her name because she hated the name so much.

Balonzette I've same the same bafflement for Alice, I know it my own bias from knowing a vile violent person with the name and I guess it sounds alright, but it still confuses me how popular it is because that association is so strong for me.

Florencenotflo · 17/09/2021 12:59

I have a 2 year old Lois. So I love the name 😂

It wasn't on our list at all though until she was born. I only knew one Lois and I never really associated the name with Lois Lane, it was a bit before my time to be honest.

DH has 2 Welsh Aunts who both pronounced it 'Loyce' but do tend to say Low-is now.

I also like Alice.

So my reply didn't help you in the slightest! 😂😂😂

Lunificent · 17/09/2021 12:55

Alice for me. Lois is very current.

Spidey66 · 17/09/2021 12:48

Both lovely. Lois has the edge for me because it is less common but both are great names.

adeleh · 17/09/2021 12:45

Alice - beautiful, elegant and good for a little girl and an adult.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 17/09/2021 12:44

Alice.

I really dislike Lois, it also just reminds me of Family Guy.

LowbrowVictoriana · 17/09/2021 11:42

Whoaa... way to get defensive, @Holly60!!HmmGrin

OP asked for opinions. That was mine.

Holly60 · 17/09/2021 09:12

@LowbrowVictoriana

Lois.

Alice is dull.

Lois is ugly and common
namechange465987 · 17/09/2021 09:05

Lois.

As pp, Low-iss.

Alice too popular now and just too sweet and twee for my liking (often on a screaming misbehaved child, which just accentuates the ill-fitting overly saccharine name unfortunately).

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 17/09/2021 08:58

Like both! Only thing with Lois is that people might not familiar with it might pronounce is as L-oi-s

Balonzette · 17/09/2021 08:56

I knew an odd Lois and it's spoilt the name for me. I was shocked when I saw on MN everyone liking it, but I supoose it is quite nice and in hindsight I'm just associating it with the Lois I knew.
