NC for this

Hi all
I'm due my second baby in 5 weeks and one of the only names we can agree on rhymes with my first name! Is it a silly thing to worry about?
The name is Seth and my name is Beth.

I really think babies should have a distinct name of their own. Doesn't have to be unusual but it should be theirs. Beth and Seth are just too similar imo.

Thinking about it though i did know a Mickey Hunt and now I’m pretty sure I know why he went by Mickey. Poor bugger did get called Mouse all the time though but that’s definitely better than My Cunt.

DustyDood · 19/09/2021 01:42

ShockShockShock
Honestly never heard that before but then again I don’t know any Mike Hunt’s.

Changechangychange · 19/09/2021 01:40

@DustyDood

What’s wrong with Michael Hunt?
Not sure if that’s a joke, but if not:

Michael shortens to Mike.

Child is then called “My cunt”. Teasing ensues.

DustyDood · 19/09/2021 01:38

What’s wrong with Michael Hunt?

Aquamarine1029 · 19/09/2021 01:35

I wouldn't like it.

Changechangychange · 19/09/2021 01:35

Lots of men give their sons their exact name, so a rhyming name is totally fine compared with that. And nothing like as bad as calling your child Michael Hunt, Richard Head, or something daft like Python.

DustyDood · 19/09/2021 01:27

My landlords name is Roger, making me Roger’s lodger Confused Shock Can’t say anyone has ever commented on that though, negative or otherwise, except me, but it’s grown on me. You’ll be fine Flowers

pregnantncnc · 16/09/2021 21:45

It is fine.

The shortened version of DS's name rhymes with the shortened version of DH's name. We didn't consider the shortened version of DS's name until it was already chosen and WAS his name. Like Joe and Bo, for example. We've had one comment, ever. I'm sure others have thought it to themselves but it isn't a big deal, really. I've just realised the shortened version of my name is only one letter off rhyming too (like Ken, Ben and Jem), but only close family call me that so its not too bad.

ElephantOfRisk · 16/09/2021 21:31

I knew a couple where both the parents had a name that rhymed with one of their DC. Think Gareth and Bethan with DD Mareth and DS Gethin. Not the real names.

I think it's fine though, might or might not be noticed or commented on.

Dancingonmoonlight · 16/09/2021 20:41

Not one person has ever commented on it in 49yrs!

People might not comment to your face though?

jasperandkasper · 16/09/2021 20:10

My name is Gill and my Dad's name is Bill!

Not one person has ever commented on it in 49yrs!

annacondom · 16/09/2021 20:08

I like it.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 16/09/2021 20:06

I think it’s a bit odd in the same way as I find names that I associate with pets normally odd. So a friend of mine has a son called Jasper which I associate with a dog I knew. So for about 5 minutes I find it odd before it just becomes that child’s name.

ASimpleLobsterHat · 16/09/2021 20:04

It’s a bit odd when you introduce yourself (which you’ll do a lot when you have a baby/child). If I heard it I would inwardly wonder why you’d gone for rhyming names, but I’m sure I’d get used to it. It doesn’t matter too much what other people think though, Seth is a perfectly acceptable name so if you like it, go for it.

mondler · 16/09/2021 19:57

I think it's ok but only if can put up with it in the house. My husbands name rhymes with his dads and his dad has recently moved in with us and hes constantly responding to the wrong name and it's doing my nut in! If you can all put up with it then go for it as it's lovely name x

Elisemum · 16/09/2021 19:48

Exactly, I would maybe giggle a bit but I would forget about it 5 seconds later. It’s something that would just make me smile, it’s nothing horrible or embarrassing. So if you like it go for it

Tatum1234 · 16/09/2021 19:27

It’s not awful but I think people will comment. My friend Jen has just called her baby Ben and it made me giggle a bit but it’s not a problem.

welshdaffs · 16/09/2021 19:19

Thank you for all opinions. I think it's still fairly split which hasn't helped Grin will keep thinking and hope a name magically comes to us...

If we had a boy he was going to be Harry and DH is Gary. I asked on here and everyone was like noooo but tbh we didn't have another name we liked so still would have done it. Ended up being a girl.

Elisemum · 16/09/2021 18:01

It’s a little odd I think, only when you introduce yourself. For example on the playground/at the doctors you would often say “oh hello this is Seth and I’m Beth” - sounds a bit silly/funny. But if you love the name then just use it, it’s not a huge deal.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 15/09/2021 21:59

Beth and Seth
Holly and Molly
Dawn and Sean
Christina and Georgina

No problem with any of them. It's fine.

GemmaRuby · 15/09/2021 21:50

Genuinely no-one has ever commented on the fact that mine and my mother’s name is one letter different and rhymes.

FASDE1517 · 15/09/2021 21:42

Sorry, I find it too odd.

mathanxiety · 15/09/2021 21:21

It's perfectly fine. I wouldn't think twice about it.
