I don’t get the vegetables link. Firstly, it’s spelled “blanch” and secondly the ending is hard in blanch but soft in Blanche.

I love the idea of it, but in reality it’s a lot of sound to squash into one syllable.

I also prefer Blythe but tend to think of it as a Scots name.

Branch.

Coronation street.

Old ladies.

No

TatianaBis · 14/09/2021 22:59

Not white people. Shock

TatianaBis · 14/09/2021 22:48

I like retro American names in general but I don't like Blanche at all

American? It’s French for white people! Blo’she

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2021 22:00

A hard no from me. Such an unattractive name both to look at written down and to hear.

OnlyFlans · 14/09/2021 06:59

I like retro American names in general but I don't like Blanche at all. I much prefer Blythe as suggested by pp.

Similar vibe-
Lois
Pearl/ Merle
Nancy
Betty
Lilian
Clara
Dorothy/ dotty
Edith / Edie

Just means White. Odd choice. A kitten, or the bitchy aristo in Jane Eyre.

Roselilly36 · 14/09/2021 06:29

I don’t like it, sorry. So many lovely girls names, but Blanche isn’t one of them IMHO.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/09/2021 06:18

I don't like it. How about Bianca?

miltonj · 14/09/2021 05:38

Boiling potatoes before they go on the oven to make chips.

beccahamlet · 14/09/2021 05:34

It's a no from me. Sorry .

EdgeOfACoin · 14/09/2021 05:32

I like Blanche.

cravingmilkshake · 14/09/2021 05:30

It makes me think of recipes online and when I see the word blanch I have to find another recipe because I don't know what it means.

And Deirdrees mum.

groovergirl · 14/09/2021 05:29

Very harsh-sounding. As for "atmosphere" it's a bit musty, shabby, living out the fag-end of one's life in a dark bedsit.

If you like names that mean white, there's Bianca, Jennifer, Guinevere, Gwendolyn, Gwyneth, Bronwen, Whitney.

Evvyjb · 14/09/2021 05:09

DuBois?

And then it's the name of one of my parents' chickens...

furbabymama87 · 14/09/2021 00:05

Really bad.

SirSamuelVimes · 13/09/2021 23:02

Blanche Dubois, Streetcar. Not a happy connotation!

Philandbill · 13/09/2021 22:46

Golden Girls

PeachesPumpkin · 13/09/2021 22:44

How about Alba?

LadyLolaRuben · 13/09/2021 22:43

I studied names as part of my English language degree. Apparently girls names are longer or softer sounding so they tend to roll - Sarah, Laura, Elizabeth. Boys seem to have shorter sharper names John, Jack, David etc.
I think names like Blanche although female lend themselves to the more traditional male sounding names, which is why they don't appeal to some people but they can't explain why

Heruka · 13/09/2021 22:41

Omg I love it!!

DoTheMaccaroni · 13/09/2021 22:35
