I already have DD Matilda
Surname is Carty

Middle name will be Peter

Current options are:

Sebastian (Sebby/Seb)
Hugo
Joshua
Rupert

What else might you suggest in the same 'not-too-pretentious but would fit well on the rugby pitch as well as in the board room' style?! (Which was also the criteria for Matilda 😂)

We were sold on Sebastian until I found out it was a boy, and now I realise I loved the girl name we had lined up more than the boy choice!

I'm entirely biased but I love Sebastian.

Mine is Seb. Hates Sebby. Used to get 'Basta' at school (not in the UK).

TatianaBis · 13/09/2021 21:26

‘Pretentious’ = middle class.

Sebastian is my favourite by far. Not true that Joshua doesn’t fit.

Others - Orlando, Jasper, Gabriel

Sebastian was on my list. As well as Franklin, Frederick, Theodore, Maximilian, Alexander and Archibald 💙

They’re really not pretentious. They’re perfectly normal names and Matilda fits nicely with them.

BungleandGeorge · 13/09/2021 20:35

Matlilda is very popular and pretty ubiquitous. Rupert really isn’t. She specifically said she didn’t want pretentious well in my opinion don’t go for Rupert or Hugo then. If she does want that type of name then Fabian is a good suggestion. If she wants classic without any connotations then Alexander or in fact most of the other suggestions are better.

LittleGwyneth · 13/09/2021 20:25

@BungleandGeorge

Your boys names are fairly pretentious (apart from Joshua), not really the same style as Matilda. Are you looking for something a bit more universal?
How can you know that they're pretentious if you don't know anything about the OP? She might be a demi-royal! Matilda is a traditional English name, previously used by royalty. Seems very in keeping with the other names to me.

Why don't you splurge on a month's subscription to Ancestry.com and go up the family tree?

Our library gives me free access (so others might).

@mumjustmum

Our Sebastian is at Rugbytots in Winchester with a 'Teddy' (also known as Mouse) and a (frightfully posh father) to 'Maximilian', known to both father and Nanny as 'Maximilian'. Another frightfully posh pair of twins we know in Winchester (GUARANTEED to go to Winchester college - I randomly met the father in law one day and got chatting about my twins, he was instantly turned off when he learned my husband didn't go to Winchester college, but a Southampton private school instead (I went to neither!). Anyway, one is Raife, I can't remember the others name.
And you're close to me too.

Must be a Hampshire trend WinkGrin
