I already have DD Matilda
Surname is Carty

Middle name will be Peter

Current options are:

Sebastian (Sebby/Seb)
Hugo
Joshua
Rupert

What else might you suggest in the same 'not-too-pretentious but would fit well on the rugby pitch as well as in the board room' style?! (Which was also the criteria for Matilda 😂)

We were sold on Sebastian until I found out it was a boy, and now I realise I loved the girl name we had lined up more than the boy choice!

Sebastian has always been one of my favourite names!

I also like Alexander, William and Raphael.

We have a Sebastian and the other names we considered were Isaac and Oscar if that helps

Twizique · 15/09/2021 14:48

If you go with an A name you can call him AP!

Twizique · 15/09/2021 14:46

My favourite is Alexander, I think it goes really well with Matilda.

I also like Edward, Conrad and Gregory.

We know two Sebs, one has a brother called Dom, both late teens, and one has a brother called Teddy, (Edwin) and is a pre-schooler.

Insertfunnyname · 15/09/2021 13:35

Joshua is a very “odd one out” name there!

Theodore
Rafe
Benedict (benny)
Monty

Jonathan non Jonty is v rugby I think.

Dancingonmoonlight · 15/09/2021 13:02

The reality is you will find more Johns, James and Williams on the rugby pitch if that is your criteria?

DollyParton2 · 15/09/2021 09:29

Spencer
Rupert
Rex
Miles
Lawrence
Louis
Zachariah
Caspar

I would suggest Felix, but I don’t think it goes with your surname. Sebastian is a lovely name though. Others which have a similar feel to me include:

Rufus
Alexander
Lucas
William (Will)

I like pp’s suggestion of Nathaniel and Dominic.

I also like Gabriel but it’s maybe not very “rugby”.Grin

Rupert and Sebastian are lovely but very common at the moment, but if you don’t mind that I would go for it. Really like Dominic, I don’t think the double C is a problem, it hasn’t been for Dominic Cummings!!

desperate4spring · 15/09/2021 09:00

Cameron
Dominic

Dancingonmoonlight · 15/09/2021 08:50

I find some of them very try hard especially Hugo and Rupert. Matilda is quite ordinary in comparison.
Alexander goes well with Matilda. Ordinary Hugh is a great name too.

Sebastian feels similar to Quentin, Reuben and Tristan. I don't find any of them 'pretentious' and perfectly fine with Mathilda

NCBabyName · 14/09/2021 11:12

@bloominglovelyorange
She would have been Nell Edith Maria (cramming both grandmothers' names in the middle there!).

I actually really like Seth...

My name is very similar to Laurence so that's not possible, and Tristan is a close friend's ex-DH's name - but also reminds me too much of Stardust (and therefore wimpy Charlie Cox) which although is one of my favourite books/films, just conjures up images of magic and witches! Blimey isn't it sad that these things put you off a name.

What's the girl name you had picked of baby a girl @NCBabyName

Seth
Tristan
Wilfred
Laurence

I love Sebastian though

NCBabyName · 14/09/2021 10:09

Thanks all! Some good alternatives here.
You've also kind of swayed me back to Sebastian...!

I do like Dominic (but not sure about the double C at end of given name, beginning of surname).
Oscar was originally on my list years ago (pre DP!) but then met DP and he already had a dog called Oscar so that's a no go.
I like Oliver - one to think about.

And sadly I am not demi-royal Grin and also not in Hampshire (Derbyshire) but I'm glad that the names seem to be ringing together well!

Sebastian is lovely ... my preference would be for Seb as a NN rather than Bastian. Reminds me a little of that film cruel intentions 😆

Hugo is great too

I want to name our boy who's due soon Douglas which I think fits the bill but my OH has vetoed

Other suggestions - Oscar, Wilfred, Barney, Nicholas, Leo

TatianaBis · 13/09/2021 22:15

Ah - I did wonder Grin
