Do you dislike or like the name & why?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I’m not a fan but generally like old traditional names.
I think the reason I’m not a fan is because it sounds nice only if said with certain accents. I like hearing different and regional accents but this name doesn’t lend itself to being pronounced in different or regional tones. Most of the time it is mangled.

nc86952 · 12/09/2021 15:20

I like Charlotte. I like the register of the name, IYSWIM.

Don't like the nicknames Lottie or Charlie.

Do like the nickname Lotta or Carly, if that is not too much of a stretch.

TwinsandTrifle · 12/09/2021 15:19

Dull. Bland. Unoriginal.

But this is probably biased because I've known 4 Charlottes, and they've all been dull.

RubySlippers123 · 12/09/2021 15:16

Love.

TheBraveLittleTailor · 12/09/2021 14:37

Perhaps because it’s a feminine version of Charles, perhaps because there’s a Queen Charlotte’s hospital but it has always seemed a royalist name to me, and comments suggesting the current use of it by the royals was somehow unfortunate and unexpected seem a bit odd.
In fact, it’s always seemed more royal than Elizabeth, which at least has a bible story attached.

Nanananani · 12/09/2021 12:42

Dull and all the ones I know have smug annoying parents

KirstenBlest · 12/09/2021 12:40

Like it. Know a few of different ages. Doesn't date.
Know one Charlie and one Lottie but the others are Charlotte.

BungleandGeorge · 12/09/2021 12:27

Nice, inoffensive, thus an easy name for the child to carry off!

Almostcooked2021 · 12/09/2021 12:13

I like it. Husband really likes it. But we have a William so we would have looked far too royalist if we went for it!

thecognoscenti · 12/09/2021 12:10

I like Charlotte but really dislike any of the shortenings/nicknames deriving from it.

HoppingPavlova · 12/09/2021 11:15

Love it, but it is currently overused.

Blughbablugh · 12/09/2021 11:13

I love it, classic and beautiful. I have a Charlotte who is a Lottie. I love it as she can be known as Charlotte, Lottie or if she wishes Charly, it's up to her. My name can't really be shortened and so I was keen for my kids to have names that can be shortened if they wish.

PileOfBooks · 12/09/2021 11:08

How do you pronounce it then??

ShuddaBeenMe · 12/09/2021 09:46

I don't like the way it's pronounced Char lut by some people

TheBraveLittleTailor · 12/09/2021 09:42

It rhymes with harlot.
I associate it with someone who went to a girls’ school breaking out.

RuthW · 12/09/2021 09:26

It's ok but a bit boring.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 12/09/2021 09:25

I'm not a massive fan which is odd as I generally like traditional names. I hate all the shortenings of it which doesn't help.

Shadedog · 12/09/2021 09:22

Dull. All the ones I know have parents who are painfully conservative and sensible. Not that that’s a terrible thing, but that’s the vibe. As a pp said, it’s Tory voting Labrador owners. Char is an awful nickname by any standards. Much prefer Caroline.

MalagaNights · 12/09/2021 09:19

It's beautiful.

Elegant and graceful.

It has Jane Austen vibes.

bigbaggyeyes · 12/09/2021 09:12

I love it and I think it spans generations, it's a lovely little girls name, can be shortened for teenagers and is classic as an adult name

FlowerTink · 12/09/2021 09:11

I love it, very classic and pretty

Thatsplentyjack · 12/09/2021 09:05

Hate it because of how common it became here when the royals named their baby Charlotte.

Sagaz · 12/09/2021 09:03

A bit boring but ok. I prefer lottie.
As a version of Charles I prefer Caroline and also Charlie.

Wegobshite · 12/09/2021 09:02

My niece is Charlotte Rose
Not shortened
I like it as it cute for children and classic as an adult name

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 12/09/2021 09:01

I’m not keen. But it is so popular many people must love the name.
