Would you give your baby your partners surname (you're not married) or make it double barrelled with his and yours?

I’d give baby my surname.

Not married and our son has my surname. I decided long before I met DP that I would never change my name or have a different name to my child, and fortunately we are quite compatible in our beliefs and he was fine with that. Wouldn't be with him otherwise!

I would have considered double-barrelling, but both our surnames are long and difficult to spell and quite frankly it would have been cruel.

ShingleBeach · 11/09/2021 17:08

Both our surnames hyphenated.

(Married but neither of us changed our names)

Would not just give a baby his surname.

Would have considered my surname with his as an extra middle name.

Give yours or double barrel.

Use both surnames, no hyphen. In the order in which they sound best.

Your name.
My dcs are stuck with XP's name and we can't change it.

When this was an option I gave the baby his surname and I regretted it. I did all the hard work, he got the recognition.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 11/09/2021 17:01

Mine or double barrel

MissBPotter · 11/09/2021 16:58

No, I would give baby my own surname without a doubt. When married could change if you want to change yours, or double barrel. That’s if you’re planning marriage in the future.
