Flora?

Hi all! What do you think of the name Flora? DH is a little phased by the butter but I think it's beautiful

I have a teenage one. She loves her name- only one in the school but easy to spell - and has never, ever had any margarine/ spread comments.

I think it's nice enough. Any Flora I've known has been the jodhpur wearing, outdoorsy posh girl type.

I have a Flora, have never had any bullying just lots of beautiful comments. I'm not sure how popular the margarine is anymore.

It's a beautiful name.

I like the name Flora but there is the obvious association with the margarine. Its a lovely name though.

@AuntieStella oh god no haha! Well, he likes Vivienne. I think it's pretty but it's not the one.

Thanks for the replies, spreads easily really isn't good. I'm a 90's baby and don't remember the ad so not sure how current it would be now but it's still the margarine...

Ever read Cold Comfort Farm? The main, seriously cool character is Flora. Fabulous name.

Lovely name but unfortunately leaves rooms for bullying… remember kids can be really cruel. I would avoid anything that can somehow lead to bullying. Like someone said Stella is a lovely name too but could be bullied - avoid

I can see why he's driving you mad if he's objecting to everything!

But he's right about Flora (years since the 'spreads easily' ad campaign, but still remembered) and also Stella

Has he suggested any names?

Some of these replies are making me smile. I know two Floras, an 8 year old and 35yr old, and have never once thought about the connection to margarine! (Only eat butter…)

Flora is a margarine. And an unsavoury nickname used when I was a teen by boys about girls who had lots of boyfriends.

But I must add, DH has a link to every single name, be it a sports person, food, drink or even "rhymes with X"... 🤣 driving me mad!

Yep, I hear echos of DH in your replies! He has the same issue with Stella, which I like too as he often stocks up on the booze. I do think Flora is so gorgeous! 😢

My friend got loads of spreads easily bullying. It's nice but I can't get past that.

DD has a friend called Flora and she's lovely!

It fits neatly into the "unusual but not weird and wacky" category.
