Am I the only one who thinks this name is stupid?

So, I just met a family who named their daughter Isla-Skye. Which literally sounds like Isle of Skye when you say it out loud. Am I the only one who thinks it's so odd to give that name to a baby? Or did it just catch me off guard?

Also, they were in Florida but the Dad sounded English or Australian...

@Onehotmess

Rex Harrison is a famous actor, so maybe that it’s odd to share your name with a celebrity?

Tyler White, I’m not sure. It sounds fine to me but I might be missing something obvious!

Their baby their choice in my opinion.

Well, yes, I think we all agree people can choose whatever name they like. But the whole point of this forum is to offer opinions.

Yes, it's a completely stupid sounding name. Luckily, most kids with hypenated names drop the second part by the time they're about 8, mind you.

I don’t get the Tyler White or Rex Harrison thing?!

OddshoesOddsocks · 06/09/2021 01:31

I know a child called Sawyer Bean

Their baby, their choice but we are perfectly entitled to think they’re stupid…

DramaAlpaca · 06/09/2021 00:16

Oh dear, that's unfortunate.

Kanaloa · 06/09/2021 00:14

It’s pretty daft, especially if you’re Scottish. I would hear it as literally Isle of Skye.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/09/2021 23:43

Yep ridiculous

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 05/09/2021 22:38

I would definitely snigger, as I did many moons ago when a friend of the family surname White called their child Tyler and when a colleagues best friend called their child Rex Harrison.
But ultimately she'll mostly be known as Isla so I guess each to their own.

MsTSwift · 05/09/2021 22:35

Daft.

Mermaidpool · 05/09/2021 22:34

Yes it does, odd choice if they have heard of the place not so much if they havent

IndecentCakes · 05/09/2021 22:32

Well, yes - I've now got the urge to burst into a rousing chorus of 'Donald, Where's Your Troosers?' but whatever Grin

Their baby their choice in my opinion.

There may be names we don't like but each to their own x
