Sophie Vs Sienna

Appreciate they have a different vibe from each other but which one do you prefer?
We like them both.
I've read that Sophie is dull and boring which I personally don't understand this as it's a gorgeous sophisticated name.
I know that Sienna is a bit modern and could date badly but again we really like it.
Any other suggestions would be great thank you x

I love Sophie and also see it as a lovely and sophisticated name but has got very popular.

Not keen on Sienna.

peaceinourtime · 04/09/2021 23:34

Sirena as an alternative? I knew one, its a lovely name.

Lilyfellss · 04/09/2021 23:34

I am sat here cuddling my baby girl Sienna Lily. It’s such a beautiful name and I’m so happy we chose it. To me it actually feels timeless as I know I’ll always think it is a beautiful name to say. Plus it comes from the Italian city and the colour so it feels classic to me I suppose. I’m biased though!

Sophie is nice but there’s just nothing special about it. I think maybe that’s because I’ve grown up with so many Sophie’s though. We almost went for Lucy actually as it’s a bit more ‘classic’ you could say, but I only liked it, I didn’t love it.

Oh and we are most definitely not downmarket (not that it matters anyways!). Smile

35andThriving · 04/09/2021 23:15

I like both.

We already have a Sienna in the family, so I couldn't use it though.

unicornpower · 04/09/2021 12:15

I love Sophie but my best friend is called that 😂 I do like Sienna but I know of SO many at the moment, it’s really popular and I don’t think it’ll age well like others have said. I would say Sienna is more popular than Sophia? What about Sasha?

thetesdybears · 04/09/2021 11:42

Oh I liked Sienna and Sophia. We went with Sophia in the end. It is a popular name but haven't come across any at nursery yet. Actually there is a Sophie in her class.

My dh wanted Sophie but it's very popular here in Scotland more so than Sophia and I thought it was lovely but a bit boring, Sophia is more modern.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/09/2021 11:35

Sienna is definitely a name that will date. Sophie is timeless. There are a lot of Sophias around (DD had three in her double-form entry primary school at one point).

toolazytothinkofausername · 04/09/2021 11:29

Sophie Grace

Sienna Wren

toolazytothinkofausername · 04/09/2021 11:25

We'd need to know the middle name to decide.

MsMeNz · 04/09/2021 11:25

I saw the title and immediately thought of m and s jeans options ,😁 but I do prefer Sophie I think but I think every other girl seems to be called that atm.

eddiemairswife · 04/09/2021 11:25

Sienna reminds me of my paint box when a child........burnt sienna, rose madder, prussian blue.

MayContainNits · 04/09/2021 11:20

I prefer Sophie by miles. Or maybe Sylvie?

xprincessxjanetx · 04/09/2021 11:17

I prefer Sophie but would use Sophia myself. I don't overly mind too much about popularity as long as I love the name.

Ninasister · 04/09/2021 09:44

Ah thank you for the positive responses ❤️

Really dislike Sadie and I don't even know why!
I forgot to say that my cousin is a Sophie and she's horrible 😂 and there has been a family rift. Can we get away with Sophie in this case? Is it a bit weird?!

I love Sophie. It's timeless to me.

My friend is a Sophie and during school we went through a phase of calling her Sophia, so you can always have the best of both worlds. She primarily Soph though now.

AdriannaP · 04/09/2021 08:03

Sophie or Sadie

I also think Sienna will date

Elisemum · 04/09/2021 07:59

Both names are lovely!

Givemethatknife · 04/09/2021 07:08

@FenceSplinters

Sophie is much nicer than Sienna.
This. I really don’t like Sienna. Also think it’s getting a v downmarket vibe.

Serena, Sabrina, Seraphina, and Sylvia/Sylvie are all nice though, if you want something more unusual than Sophie.

adeleh · 04/09/2021 01:05

Sophie. I love the name.

Kanaloa · 04/09/2021 01:04

They’re both nice. As a pp said, I’d wait and see when she’s here. Often they just ‘seem’ like a Sophie/Sienna when you see them.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 04/09/2021 01:03

They're both lovely, could you wait and see if one suits her better than the other one.

We had already picked out a name for DS3 and when he was born, it didn't suit him at all and we chose one that hadn't been on our list. He hates the name we nearly used but really likes the one we did Smile

ZednotZee · 04/09/2021 00:51

I really have grown to dislike Sienna.

Sophie is lovely, have you considered Sylvie? I'm admittedly biased as my DD12 is Sylvie and but are yet to meet another, excepting those born pre 1940.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 03/09/2021 23:25

Biased because I have a Sophie and despite not realising how popular it was she's the only one in the school. Lots of Sophia's but she's the only Sophie.
Not so keen on Sienna but Sadie is nice.

FenceSplinters · 03/09/2021 23:24

Sophie is much nicer than Sienna.

Lunificent · 03/09/2021 23:16

I’d go for Sophie.
