Are you ok Sail, you're very invested in my name thread?

So, in the light of those Chester isn't too bad!

SailYourShips · 03/09/2021 19:48

I did hear someone wanted a literary name for her boy and was considering Brick. Thick as a brick and brick shithouse didn't seem to deter her. The only thing that stopped it happening was that someone in her circle beat her to it.

SailYourShips · 03/09/2021 19:46

Actually, it's in Dorset. Another great name.

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 19:45

@SailYourShips

I love Shitterton. It's a place in Devon and such a unique name for a boy and so easily shortened to a phrase that could be applied to many names.
👍🏻

The American bloke in Four Weddings and a Funeral was called Chester I think. The Texan that Scarlett married.

It's a dogs name

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 19:41

Weird that people were knobs about it! We take names from all sorts of places; locations, birds, virtues, plants, etc etc

ChampagneWorries · 03/09/2021 19:39

My daughter has a place name. Some people were a knob about it at first but she’s 9 now and I still love her name.

I think Chester is a great name, I also love Lincoln

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 19:30

@allofthecheese

I’m from Chester so it sounds odd to me

WingingItSince1973 · 03/09/2021 19:19

My friends toddler has that name and it suits him. He's so cute. If you love it then go for it x

SamMil · 03/09/2021 19:13

I really like Chester! Good name Smile

The only famous Chester I can think of is Chester Bennington, so no negative connotations. And it's definitely better than Lester!

@theflippantpenguin

Chester John sounds like you meant Prester John (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prester_John ) but got it a bit wrong.
What a reach 🤣

@Otherthanetta - I dislike the majority of those too.

Don't apologise

@PricklesTheHedgehog

Chester George sounds like chest of drawers.
This! Hahaha 🤣
FeedMeSantiago · 03/09/2021 14:57

I went to Uni with a Chester. I'm not aware of anyone calling him Chester the Molester.

John goes very nicely as a middle name for Chester.

Otherthanetta · 03/09/2021 14:19

@WeAreTheHeroes

It's a place not a first name. Plus it's what many Cheddar cheese copies are called in France.
Loads of baby names are also place names e.g. Florence, Austin, Georgia, Chelsea etc etc

" It was adopted as a first name as early as the 16th century. It has never been very popular in Britain, but it has been used in consistent (if low) usage over the last 500 years as births in England and Wales show: 1840s: 41 births 1850s: 33 births 1860s: 45 births 1870s: 62 births 1880s: 77 births 1890s: 75 births 1900s: 68 births 1910s: 59 births 1920s: 58 births 1930s: 48 births 1940s: 83 births 1950s: 30 births In America, however, Chester was much more popular, ranking in the top 100 from 1880 to 1929. Holly Willoughby has a son called Chester. His middle name is William which I also love. I don’t think the middle name has to be one syllable
