Please help, my partner and I have finally managed to shorten our list to just three names, we are due our little girl in 5 weeks! Which name do you prefer, Evelyn, Freya or Nina?

OP posts:

Love Nina. Freya is quite nice too, bit seems quite popular and slightly dated to me. Lots of Evies and Evas around, which would put me off Evelyn.

I like Freya! Nina less so & I know numerous Evelyns. xo

Nina - it's pretty and not as common as the other two.

Then Evelyn, but there's about 3 different ways to pronounce that name.

Then Freya.

All nice but I’d go for Nina. It works across so many cultures and languages, it’s timeless, Nina Simone was a fantastic singer.

Lovely names! We are in the same position as you, expecting a girl due in October & really struggled with names but finally have it down to 4!!!

I love all your names, but if I had to choose one, it would be Nina! I adore this name!

The only one I like is Nina, it's a bit more unusual.

Sarcobaleno · 01/09/2021 05:56

All are beautiful. Only thing that would put me off Evelyn is that if she shortens it she would be one of many Eves/Evas

RubySlippers123 · 01/09/2021 05:55

Nina.

Great name choices
Fave is Freya, closely followed by Nina. Are you going to have a middle name? If so which name flows better?

Theoldwoman · 01/09/2021 05:46

Those names are all pretty equal to me, but Nina would be slightly in front.

WildCherryBlossom · 01/09/2021 05:41

I love Evelyn for it's elegance and slightly vintage feel. You need to decide on your preferred pronunciation.

Nina is gorgeous. I love its pared down simplicity. Pretty without being frilly. Timeless.

Not a fan of a Freya. Just do not like the sound of it at all, but I know it's terribly popular so accept I'm in a minority.

manhattenrain · 01/09/2021 05:21

I love Evelyn and Nina! Not a fan of Freya.

Evelyn is lovely. I also feel that it is more of a classic name than the others. It will age well too.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/09/2021 01:36

I'd pick Nina - imo a short/simple, pretty, semi - classic which is still relatively underused (although slowly on the rise).

Evelyn and Freya are lovely but quite popular/trendy at the moment - so might date more (plus with Evelyn you have pronunciation issues).

Have you considered Eve? More timeless/less subject to the whims of fashion than Evelyn and without the pronunciation problems.

DramaAlpaca · 01/09/2021 01:03

Evelyn. Yes it's popular but it's classic, elegant and timeless. The nicest of the three by far.

Freya. Nice enough, I'm just not that keen on it.

Nina. No, to me it's a bit nothingy, not a strong name. A bit whiny, even. Sorry.
