What do you think?
Front runner for our daughter due soon!
Another option is Cosima

I adore Cosima and Octavia. Not massive on Ottavia

Florasteddy · 31/08/2021 21:23

I think it's very pretty!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/08/2021 21:21

Octavia's lovely and my preference (makes me think of Roman history and the Shakespeare character). But if you have an Italian surname/obvious Italian links, I think people will soon get used to Ottavia (although Brits might misspell it at first ). Cosima is pretty too, but I personally love Octavia.

DramaAlpaca · 31/08/2021 21:12

I prefer Ottavia to Octavia. They are pronounced differently, ott-AAH-vee-ah as distinct from oc-TAY-vee-ah.

I like Cosima more than both.

SpeckledyHen · 31/08/2021 20:47

She will have a lifetime of misspelling of her name .

Ikeameatballs · 31/08/2021 20:32

I prefer Cosima

Blueskytoday06 · 31/08/2021 20:32

Nope.

user1493494961 · 31/08/2021 20:29

Much prefer Octavia.

PlainJane1000 · 31/08/2021 20:25

I find Ottavia weirdly hard to say. My brain wants to say Octavia. Prefer either of these to Cosima. :-)

frogswimming · 31/08/2021 20:20

@ofwarren

Do you have Italian heritage? I like the sound of them both but think that Ottavia might be misheard as Octavia as that's more well known.
This.
MrsFin · 31/08/2021 19:29

Are there any links to the number 8?

olympicsrock · 31/08/2021 19:23

Honestly - I’m not keen . Would think of it as Octavia misspelt

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/08/2021 19:00

Bit Jilly Cooper imo.

brushlaptop · 31/08/2021 19:00

Yes that was me! On that thread someone suggested Ottavia over Octavia which I loved and now prefer! X

And I agree with PP, you and she will always be correcting the spelling from Octavia.

Heronwatcher · 31/08/2021 18:55

Have you posted before- there was someone else who asked about the names Octavia and Cosima, if you search you’ll find them. I think the general consensus was that they were a bit try hard and pretentious but if you like them, go for it. Maybe go for a more simple middle name so there’s the option for the child to use that in later life:

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 31/08/2021 18:49

People will call her Octavia. It's very posh, so is cosima. They are both a bit fussy.

Fivefourthreetwo · 31/08/2021 18:48

I'm not keen

Unfashionable · 31/08/2021 18:46

Ottavia just makes me think ‘Skoda’. They are excellent cars, of course, but I'm not sure I would want to be named after one.

brushlaptop · 31/08/2021 18:29

I also like Octavia :)

We do have Italian heritage but don't speak any Italian 😂
