Hi all. After considering middle names for Ada I'm also thinking about first name River. Any MN suggestions? Thanks x

Something traditional. Definitely not a flower or plant name. Not a filler middle name either. Something with some weight.

I like it. But it's a difficult name to pair with as a trad name sounds odd with it and another nature name sounds too themed.

I think it works with single syllable middle names e.g.
River Jane
River Rose
River Joy
River Grace
River Faith
River Jade
River Niamh
River May

River Sophie

River Pema
River Pearl
River Gypsy

Something fairly conventional, because she may not like River - and it’s mainly given as a boys name

River Rose is nice actually - or River Rosanna etc, River Rebecca, River Grace, River Pearl, River Frances, River Iona, River Esther, River Clara

I know YOU think it's a lovely name, but chances are your daughter won't (esp as a teen/adult) I wouldn't like it to be my name, and I have 3 girls and they all said ewww. (the youngest is 18)

However, if you are determined:

River Jade
River Leigh
River Mae
River Charlotte

I love geography but my DS oxbow lake hates his name.

MojoJojo71 · 30/08/2021 11:38

I don’t get all the ridicule to be honest, while I probably wouldn’t choose it myself River is a lovely name for both a boy or a girl. A friend of mine has just named her little girl River Lily.

@RandomDent

Amy
Amy was River’s mother on Dr Who but most people wouldn’t make that connection.

What about Ada River, with River as the middle name if you like Ada.

If you are calling your daughter River, think carefully about the middle name and surname otherwise it will sound like a place name or a type of plant (e.g. River Eden, River Willow).

Do you have any middle names you are considering?

@whosaidtha

Can you imagine a 50 year old woman introducing herself as River?
Why about a 50 year old man called Cloud, like that one off YouTube.
MahMahMahMahCorona · 30/08/2021 11:12

River Rose is lovely.

How about...

River Elyse
River Annie
River Alissia
River Willow
River Skye
River Anais

☺️

HoldingTheDoor · 30/08/2021 11:11

And not much better on a child.

Can you imagine a 50 year old woman introducing herself as River?

I can't. It's a ridiculous name on an adult.

alexio · 30/08/2021 11:10

@heyitshol
I love the name River with Ivy or Willow as a middle name.

pinkyredrose · 30/08/2021 11:09

Forrest?

wincarwoo · 30/08/2021 11:09

I know a River she has a unique hyphenated name which I won't disclose here- but it sounds lovely.

My kids have traditional names but some unusual names are lovely and I think River is one of them.

Magenta82 · 30/08/2021 11:09

Nile

You are in de-nile if you think that is an appropriate name for a child.

wincarwoo · 30/08/2021 11:07

Mae

CoronaPeroni · 30/08/2021 11:07

I think I would spell it Riva and followed by a second short name like Joy or Rose or Ann

Si1ver · 30/08/2021 11:05

Severn?

Thanks all for your input but I wasn't actually looking for your opinions on the first name, but for middle names that go with it
