The top names of 2020 by ONS should be coming out any-day now! Do we have any predictions of big improvers or fallers? :D

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think Penelope and Phoebe will have shot up the charts. Also Aria, Theodore etc

I think Theodore will be a high riser this years. Seems really popular at present. Not sure on girls everyone I know seems to have boys.

CaffiSaliMali · 29/08/2021 16:56

Lots of my friends who have had sons in the last year or two have named them Harry or Henry.

Boys names ending in 'o' seem popular in the last year as well - Leo, Arlo, Milo, Jago etc.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 29/08/2021 16:32

Agree with Arlo & Otis rising.
I think Oliver will still be number 1.
Arthur in the top 10.

Still lots of Eva/ Ava/Evie.
Rise in Ada, Ida, Iris, Elsie, Evelyn.
Falls for Elsa & Alexa.

AnyaMoondial · 29/08/2021 16:24

My predictions are:

Arthur will be new number one for boys.
Olivia will remain number one for girls.

Ada, Maeve, Hazel, Ottilie will be up for girls.

Arlo and Otis will be up for boys and Theodore will be well within the top ten.

I wonder if the delays in parents registering births last year due to covid has caused a delay in the statistics at the ONS?

MooseBreath · 29/08/2021 14:13

The ones I have heard multiples of this year:

Arthur
Archie
Felix
Hugo
Elsie
Paisley
Ada
Luna

bloominglovelyorange · 29/08/2021 14:01

@IVflytrap I don't know any young Olivia's either

Seems like the statistics are a bit delayed this year @LiveSimply - there's still no specific release date listed on the ONS website and they've moved the estimate time slot from "August- September 2021" to "September -October 2022"

Not that I'm interested or checking or anything. Obviously.

IVflytrap · 29/08/2021 10:59

My predictions for the girls:

Short (somewhat trendy?) girls names up: Sienna, Aria, Luna, Lyra, Zara, Erin, Erica, Zoe, Naomi

Short Irish names up: Erin, Orla, Maeve, Niamh, Aoife

Shorter less frilly vintage names up: Mabel, Margot, Edith, Esther, Audrey, Hazel, Nancy, Nell, Martha, Etta

Nature names up: Willow, Iris, Fern, Rowan, Robin, Wren, Pearl, Sky(e), Summer, Autumn, Winter

Longer frillier names down: Amelia, Isabella, Isabelle, Arabella, Aurora, Annabelle

Classics relatively steady: Emily, Charlotte, Sophie/Sophia, Alice

I hope Olivia isn't still number 1 Grin I don't know any young Olivias, where are they hiding them all??

Helpmetopickone · 29/08/2021 10:56

I am hearing Charlie for boys so I predict that has shot higher, the normal Albie, Arthur, Jude, Reuben

For girls, Ava, Olivia, Isla

periwinkle86 · 29/08/2021 08:41

Not a specific prediction, but I predict that all the names we like will have shot up so much in popularity we won’t want to use them anymore and will have to go back to the drawing board! It just feels inevitable!
