Juliet Vs Juliette

Reasons for and against each spelling?
I probably prefer the latter but find myself saying it with a soft J which makes it sound like I'm putting on an accent but I love both!

Ooh thank you everyone. A bit of a fair split though probably erring towards Juliet!

My own name is a constant mis-spell mispronounce so in some ways that doesn't bother me as I've had it for a lifetime, but then do I want that for my child as well
Glad the consensus seems to be that it's a nice name though! I think DH prefers the more English Juliet as that's how he would pronounce it but I think my pronunciation is closer to the french. I'm more familiar with Italian which is perhaps why I say it the way I do but I don't think they have a version (which I could get away with using).

Had exact same dilemma 3 years ago and so glad we went with the English spelling. She still gets it sometimes written as 'Juliette' on her preschool artwork though .

I love this name so much I'm really struggling to find anything as nice for DD2!

I do think the French spellings make you look a bit ignorant in the UK if you’re pronouncing it the English way. It’s like advertising that you don’t know the difference.
cf, Isabel /Isabelle, Vivien/Vivienne. Annabel /Annabelle.

I know a Juliet and a Juliette and they both pronounce their names the same way.

I prefer the Juliet spelling - I tend to prefer shorter versions of names in general e.g. Isabel over Isabelle.

I think Juliet is the more common spelling in the UK. However, both spellings are known so if you prefer Juliette go with it.

Juliet, if you're pronouncing it with a slight emphasis on the first syllable (i.e standard British pronunciation of the name).

Juliette, if the emphasis is on the the "ette", and you have some sort of link to France.

That's how I'd decide, anyway.

Juliet. If it's good enough for Shakespeare - seriously, it's been the standard spelling here for centuries, fluffing up the end will lead to a lifetime of having her name misspelled.

Juliette is just fussy, and she will be endlessly correcting the spelling. You will never get it pronounced with a soft J in the UK.

I think Juliette looks really nice but most will assume it's spelt Juliet. Either way, a beautiful name!

Juliet, I think different stresses as in a PP so slightly different sounds but this is neater, cooler and less frilly

I like just Juliet. My reason would be that for some reason it seems more ‘classic’ to me, whereas Juliette looks more dated. Lovely name.
