I’m afraid I really dislike it. It’s quite a harsh sound to my ears and also when written down it does make me think of maggot. However I’m definitely in a minority as it seems mega popular!

@NaToth

Never did Margaux Hemingway any harm.

Lovely name though, classy however it is spelt.

She had quite a tragic life and struggled with alcoholism (common to her family) so I've always thought the fact she was named after Chateau Margaux a bit sad.
toastofthetown · 29/08/2021 15:24

I agree that it's a name that is very trendy at the moment and that would put me off. Margot is by far the nicest spelling to me; I don't like Margaux at all.

HoldingTheDoor · 29/08/2021 14:29

I'm not a fan. It's not an attractive name and makes me think of maggot.

Bit too jolly hockey sticks for me.

I'm amazed no one has mentioned the youngest (and most annoying imo) Chalet School triplet. However, that's not exactly current popular culture so I don't think it matters.

Personally I'd prefer to name a child Margaret but use Margot as a nickname.

bloominglovelyorange · 29/08/2021 13:55

I love it. Not met one

allyouneedisconnection · 29/08/2021 12:40

Love it!

peppapigfangirl · 29/08/2021 12:35

It's lovely. On my list.

User8765461 · 29/08/2021 12:03

I guess few people under 40 know the series as according to many pps the name is very popular now! I don't think those that remember will distinguish between Margot and Margo, especially as AFAIK they are pronounced the same.
I am not in grandparent age range, but may also have missed the Minions craze.

daisypond · 29/08/2021 11:44

@User8765461

Nice name, but:

Anyone of a certain age's first thought will be the Good Life character.

But that was Margo, not Margot - and that series was a very, very long time ago - grandparents’ generation now.

Younger people will maybe think of the cool child character Margot in Despicable Me.

spartanthehorse · 29/08/2021 05:51

Really like it but yes, also very popular around here.

riromay · 29/08/2021 05:48

^ exactly! I'm surprised people don't see the connection, it's all I think when i hear the name (but of course I wouldn't tell that to people in rl)

EishetChayil · 29/08/2021 05:41

Awful. Like maggot.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 29/08/2021 05:36

Sorry OP, it sounds like a car to me... ‘the new Toyota Margot’. I’m surprised it’s so popular tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

manhattenrain · 29/08/2021 05:24

I prefer Margo without the T. Either way it's a nice name.Smile

Kanaloa · 29/08/2021 04:44

I like it. I would spell it like Margot, not Margaux, but I think it’s a nice solid name.

mydailymailhell · 29/08/2021 04:11

Love this name but it has become extremely popular - I know about five babies / toddlers with this name, including a couple with the spelling Margaux which is incomprehensibly naff

garlictwist · 29/08/2021 04:05

Sorry I think it awful. A real middle aged name

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 29/08/2021 02:53

I don't mind it but agree with pp its waaay popular right now

Soulstirring · 29/08/2021 02:38

It’s not a name I have ever liked. I’m genuinely shocked it’s become so popular but each to their own!

Boredmotherofone · 29/08/2021 01:52

Omg that's horrific! Sounds like a geography teacher with a floral skirt and a Honda Jazz

Balonzette · 29/08/2021 01:41

Love it
