I think it's an awful name that seems to be a fad right now.
Will forever think of Dave

Enko · 28/08/2021 09:30

I like it

mummagirl · 28/08/2021 08:18

Yep. It's French. Pronounced Moyava.
Our wee pup is called Maeva......I love it

MrsGilly1 · 28/08/2021 08:15

Its cute x I like Mavie as well x

ItsNotMeAnymore · 27/08/2021 08:58

I love it and I have a French name that I have to tell people how to pronounce and which I don't pronounce the correct French way. I'm in my 60's and I've always loved my name and I've never minded the fact I have to help people to pronounce it correctly. It's only ever been positive. I do use a simply shortened version occasionally if I have to give a name at a restaurant etc.

AlmostSummer21 · 27/08/2021 08:40

Not keen - sorry

In England it will appear 'made up' & I expect she'll spend most of her life (if you live in the U.K.) correcting people in either the spelling or the pronunciation. Which gets old quick.

CaffiSaliMali · 27/08/2021 08:32

I hadn't heard of it before but like it, very pretty and easy to say (I had guessed it was pronounced May-va).

Twotothreeagain · 26/08/2021 23:48

To me it’s this holiday company… www.maeva.com/fr-fr/

Darthwader · 26/08/2021 23:37

I like Maeve but not Maeva.

Msgiggles30 · 26/08/2021 23:34

Not a made up name. Its quite popular in the African communities where I am due to the French language. However the family I know pronounce it my-va not may-va. It's a sweet name.

OddshoesOddsocks · 26/08/2021 23:25

I have a maeve which I obviously love but maeva is very pretty!

Germolenequeen · 26/08/2021 23:04

Not 'made up' in France, it's a pretty well established name!
Oh sorry

LaChatte · 26/08/2021 23:03

Not 'made up' in France, it's a pretty well established name!

Raquelos · 26/08/2021 22:59

Unfortunately, I associate the name with Maeva on Made in Chelsea who has to be one of the biggest bellends I have ever seen on there, and she has some stiff competition.

It's a no from me!

lljkk · 26/08/2021 22:50

Tolerable. I like other names better.

Germolenequeen · 26/08/2021 22:41

Or even Meadbh

Germolenequeen · 26/08/2021 22:40

Oops Meadbhh 😅

Germolenequeen · 26/08/2021 22:38

Made up name 🙄 Maeve/ Maidbh is the correct version and lovely

Classica · 26/08/2021 22:37

It's like Camille. Sounds so lovely when a French person says it, Cah-mee, and nice but not quite so lovely when an English person pronounces it cameel.

2mutsandsomebabies · 26/08/2021 22:35

French Maeva isn't pronounced May-va but Mah-ay-va. 3 syllables, its lovely but I imagine a childhood of everyone calling her Mayva, and the poor girl getting annoyed.

AugmentedToast · 26/08/2021 22:33

Lovely name, but I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it. Chances are also that your daughter will have her name misspelled more often than not. Not a problem as such, but might be worth thinking about (my name is Kathrin and I started making a list of the various misspellings of my name years ago - and the rare occasions when people spell it right Smile)

Classica · 26/08/2021 22:32

I would say of the two Maeve has more substance as there seems to be more history behind it and Queen Maeve is such a massive figure in Irish mythology, but if you prefer a longer name I can see why the sound of Maeva might appeal more.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/08/2021 22:29

I think because Maeve is rapidly rising in popularity at the moment and that fact that Eva, Ava and May (as a middle) are so popular now too, some people may think Maeva looks invented or trendy if that matters. BUT it has a really lovely sound imo, so if that doesn't bother you, I say go for it!

Viviennemary · 26/08/2021 22:27

Not keen but its seems a perfectly acceptable name.

LouLucky · 26/08/2021 22:27

My first impression was that it looks a bit made up, or a misspelling of Maeve. But I do like it, it sounds pretty.
