Hello,

Amber is the only girl name that my partner & I both agree on, but it’s not at the top of either of our lists, so looking for some feedback :)

@LiveSimply

I understand the ‘Amber Alert’ connotations, but surely that’s not forever and soon will be a distant memory? Well, we hope!
Amber Alerts are for missing children. They'll be around for a while
35andThriving · 07/09/2021 22:33

This was my favourite girls' name as a teenager, along with Leah.

Angel2702 · 31/08/2021 08:14

It was quite popular a few years ago I know quite a few in my children’s friendship groups, so not as dated as people on here make out.

MysteriousMonkey · 31/08/2021 07:47

I don't like it but I don't know why. My teacher friend says any Amber she's ever taught has been lovely if that helps Grin

Amber Alert.

Ember is better.

Thank you so much for all the replies!

I have done a bit of research & it does look like it was very popular in America in the 80s/90s, which did initially put me off a little! However, all the positive comments, I think, has won me back! It’s still the clear favourite I think!

Really lovely name. I love it! Familiar but underused. Retro feel but only a bit. Really nice. Use it!

MimiDaisy11 · 27/08/2021 14:31

I quite like it. I think it does seem a little American which is fine and although people are saying it's dated it's not dated the way some names like Tiffany are as it was never as popular, so I think many people don't know that many Ambers. I haven't met any that I can think of so don't associate it with a particular age group.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 27/08/2021 00:06

I think it's a pretty name, it's unusual now for younger girls . I know two but they are both in their late twenties and not in the least bit chavvy.
It would make a change from the more popular names.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 26/08/2021 23:53

I like it.

Also like Ember and its meaning.

Givemethatknife · 26/08/2021 23:52

Very 70s
It’s OK

Marcipex · 26/08/2021 23:49

I love it.

LunaDreams · 26/08/2021 19:34

I really like it. Have only met a handful but they have all been lovely! Not common but also not too out there. Easy to spell and pronounce.

LiveSimply · 26/08/2021 04:11

Ah, thank you all for the lovely feedback!

We have a 5 year old Amber - a simple and pretty name and not too popular. I don’t think we’re chavs 🤔.

blackice · 25/08/2021 19:49

Very American. Don't like it, sorry

TartanJumper · 25/08/2021 19:48

I like it.
I've known two Ambers and both were beautiful souls, so I associate it with nice people!

evilharpy · 25/08/2021 19:46

@Toottooot

Chavvy.
We have an Amber and I'm pretty sure we're not anyone's definition of chavvy Grin

It's not common around here at all, my daughter is the only one in her year.

itsharderthanithought89 · 25/08/2021 19:41

Really like it

Lulu1919 · 25/08/2021 19:41

I have a 30 year old daughter who is Amber

MajorNeville · 25/08/2021 19:39

I know 3 Ambers, all in completely different parts of my life and all different ages. I think it is a nice name, not out there but not overly popular either.

aprilshowers2015 · 25/08/2021 19:37

Love it, would've used it but our surname ends "er" so didn't think it sounded quite right

sarah13xx · 25/08/2021 19:35

Yes lovely 😊

OverweightPidgeon · 25/08/2021 19:26

@Sonata13 mines an Amber Rose too .
