Hi all,

4 years ago we tested our daughters name for pronunciation here (on morning of registration!). It was really helpful & accurate so thought would try again now that we have a newborn boy. Preferred name is Rian, how would you pronounce:

  1. Ree-un
  2. Ryan
  3. Ree-ahn
  4. Ree-anne
Any others?

We may play around with spellings if there is ambiguity. Thanks again !

1 but I’m in Ireland so more familiar with it.

Where are you based?

FGSWhatNow · 25/08/2021 10:12

4

Mrsbclinton · 25/08/2021 10:11

I would pronounce it Ree-in

DotDotDotDotDot · 25/08/2021 10:10

I’d say 4 - I’m based in UK if that makes any difference.

Floralnomad · 25/08/2021 10:10

4 and I would also assume it was a girl .

MindyStClaire · 25/08/2021 10:08

1 with a very short second syllable. I'm Irish.

Barkingdog · 25/08/2021 10:06

I'd say 4 - Ree Ann but would assume your child was a girl.

Largethighsbadeyes · 25/08/2021 10:06

4

GemmaRuby · 25/08/2021 10:05

I’d assume it’s a girl and was Rhian spelled wrong, which I would pronounce ree-un.

romdowa · 25/08/2021 10:03

I'm irish and where I'm from it's pronounced the same way as 3. It's probably a regional thing like the pronunciation of saoirse.

SoupDragon · 25/08/2021 10:03

I think either 1 or 4 - I can't decide which!

I think I'd go for 4 if it was a girl and 1 if it was a boy.

FrogInASock · 25/08/2021 10:03

Ree-Anne to rhyme with Leanne. And I’d also start singing Fleetwood Mac’s Rhiannon in my head.

Hermanfromguesswho · 25/08/2021 10:02

I’d assume a girl and pronounced Ree-an
If I knew it was a boy before seeing the spelling then I’d assume it was an alternative spelling of Ryan

DaxtheDestroyer · 25/08/2021 10:02

I'd say no.4 too and also assume it was a girl

OliveHenry · 25/08/2021 10:02

I'd think it should rhyme with Ian.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 25/08/2021 10:02

3

mafted · 25/08/2021 10:01

I thought Rahn because I've just been speaking to a Sian

NannyR · 25/08/2021 10:01

I've only come across that spelling as a girl's name and it was pronounced Ryan.

LizzieAnt · 25/08/2021 10:01

I'd say Ree-un, emphasis on first syllable. I'm in Ireland. It's a boys' name.

GreenTortoise · 25/08/2021 10:00

Ryan

SuperSleepyBaby · 25/08/2021 10:00

Ree-un - i’m in Ireland and know of a few boys called Rian

LilacSloth · 25/08/2021 09:59

1

NoSquirrels · 25/08/2021 09:59

Ree-AN

ThePoint678 · 25/08/2021 09:59

Rye Anne

StarryStarrySocks · 25/08/2021 09:58

3, would also assume it was a girl and a misspelling of Rhian.
