Very early days for me but I feel like I'm going to struggle with names a lot this time. There a a few like that I like but none really stand out to me as being the one. Can I have your thoughts and maybe some other suggestions please?

Juliet
Freya
Maria
Erin
Daisy
Rosie

Rowan
Finn
Alexander
Jude

Thank you

Juliet - gorgeous, elegant and underused
Freya - very pretty if slightly "now" (well the last 20/30 years!)
Maria - timeless classic
Erin - okay, don't love or hate
Daisy - too cutesy
Rosie - as above but a nice nn for Rose/Rosa/Rosalie/Rosanna etc

Rowan- very nice, shame it's become trendy/popular
Finn - too trendy sounding for me
Alexander - lovely timeless classic
Jude - too trendy plus I dislike the sound as well.

For me it's Juliet and Alexander as the winners - as while some of your other choices sound nice, I'm wary on names which may "date" kids in future (if there are other options you like as much).

SleepEatPoopRepeat · 28/08/2021 14:35

Rosie - I’m biased as my daughter name although long form is Rosamund

Maybe Rohan (emphasis on h) to be more masculine as few here seem to think Rowan is for a girl.

Givemethatknife · 28/08/2021 01:24

Juliet - nice, up and coming - prefer Julia
Freya - lovely but overused - Ffion, Freida, Thora, Flora..
Maria - Great - due a revival
Erin - meh
Daisy - sweet but wet
Rosie - so many of them, also a bit twee as a full name - Rose/Rosa/Rosanna better

Other thoughts - Marianne, Marina, Sylvie, Stella, Jasmine, Robin, Ffion

Rowan - nice, but v popular
Finn - nice, popular recently
Alexander - classic, lots around
Jude - great and the most unusual

Others - Jesse, Jonah, Jonas, Saul, Jethro, Alistair, Kester, Seth, Silas, John

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 27/08/2021 06:36

Love Maria and Marianne.

All your other girls names are nice too, though Daisy is a little cutsie for me. Róisín feels more elegant and grown up than Rosie.

Love Rowan and Alexander!

Elspethelf · 27/08/2021 04:35

Juliet is my favorite on your girls list. Rowan is also on my list :)

Babydust13 · 25/08/2021 14:59

Juliet - ok
Freya - ok
Maria - not a fan
Erin - love this
Daisy - lovely for a child not sure about an adult
Rosie - same as Daisy

Rowan - not a fan
Finn - love this
Alexander - not a fan
Jude - ok

CaffiSaliMali · 25/08/2021 14:51

I like all your girls names, especially Juliet. Least favourites are Daisy and Rosie which feel like nicknames to me, Rosie in particular. I think all the Rose names are lovely so would go for one of those and use Rosie as a nickname. Rosa is my favourite but I like Rose, Rosalie, Rosemary and Rosanna a lot too.

teaandcrumpets35 · 25/08/2021 14:31

@bloominglovelyorange not at all, it's really interesting how names come back around again. I remember everyone having a Jayden about 10 years ago but you don't hear it as often these days.

Yes so sorry I went off on a tangent. I wasn't aiming the popularity discussion at you @teaandcrumpets35 - sorry for going off topic

Beatrice is lovely but Marianne pips it for me

teaandcrumpets35 · 25/08/2021 13:21

It's interesting isn't it. I'm not overly bothered about popularity. My dc has a name that has been in the top 10 for years. I just loved it so I was always going to use it.

This time I feel the same, just want something that I love.

Thank you bloominglovely. That’s really interesting. Never heard of it. Just going to have a look.

bloominglovelyorange · 25/08/2021 12:05

@sorryforswearing agree you can't always predict which names will be popular , some really do boom from nowhere (like Harper after Beckhams picked it) but vast majority of names you can predict if they're on a big upswing because if you go on the dark greener website it shows you a graph of the last 25 years of official statistics for the name. If your DS is now 24 then dark greener website wouldn't have been around then. Now though, if you type in a name like "Dorothy" you can see it's growth and it won't be a huge surprise to see the name Dorothy in the top 100 in a few years. People will say "wow Dorothy -it's boomed from nowhere"- but that's not true if they check the statistics. (I know I need to get a life!)

Dorothy vs Harper below.

sorryforswearing · 25/08/2021 12:00

Also thought it couldn’t be shortened. What did I know? 😂

sorryforswearing · 25/08/2021 11:57

I like Juliet and Rosa rather than Rosie. I also like Jude. It’s all personal taste though. I wanted an uncommon but proper name for my DS (now 24) and chose something not even in the top two hundred but in the last couple of years it’s become increasingly popular. Same happened with my DN name. You can’t control popular however much you try.

bloominglovelyorange · 25/08/2021 11:42

Love Marianne so much @teaandcrumpets35

teaandcrumpets35 · 25/08/2021 11:17

Also considering Marianne as an alternative to Maria.

VeryLongBeeeeep · 25/08/2021 10:46

Juliet - lovely, classic
Freya - love this too
Maria - okay
Erin - okay
Daisy - like this
Rosie - like it, but prefer it as a short for Rosalind/Rosamund

Rowan - I know it is a boy's name but recently have only seen it used for girls
Finn - like this
Alexander - love this and lots of nn potential (which could be a positive or a negative!)
Jude - the Obscure, depressing book which colours my perception of this name. Have encountered it IRL more often as a short for Judith than as a boy's name (even though I know it is the latter)

Enough4me · 25/08/2021 10:42

My favourite combinations are:
Freya Erin
Alexander Jude

Miliao · 25/08/2021 10:42

Maria is nice, not very popular at the moment either. Daisy is awful, I always think of a cow (the animal), although I’ve never met a nice Daisy either!

Orangestarfish · 25/08/2021 10:37

Juliet - nice, underused
Freya - pretty but feels a little dated
Maria - not keen, feels a bit religious
Erin - love
Daisy - but twee and cutesy
Rosie - much prefer Rosa or Rose, or possibly Rosalie

Rowan - love, though actually prefer it for a girl
Finn - love. How about Fraser?
Alexander - meh
Jude - like

teaandcrumpets35 · 25/08/2021 10:35

Thanks everyone really appreciate the comments even though in the end I guess it boils down to personal taste.

Beatrice is another wonderful suggestion.

OP posts:
ItsSunnyOutside · 25/08/2021 10:18

Juliet - Lovey , feminine sounding name
Freya - I like it
Maria - ok but sounds abit boring
Erin - cute, individual
Daisy - abit too cutesy but nice
Rosie - ok

Rowan - Lovely, for a boy or girl.
Finn - nice
Alexander - not sure about this one
Jude - I like this one alot

MissL85 · 25/08/2021 10:16

I like Erin from your list and Beatrice and Robert from the other lists. Those three are on my list too.

bloominglovelyorange · 25/08/2021 09:58

I love Daisy and Rosie, in fact your girl list is really nice
In terms of your boy list -Rowan is my baby girl's name. Word of warning is that it gets shortened to Row even when you ask people not to (so depends if you like that shortening - I don't) and it also continually gets misheard for Roman (which is fastest rising boy name) and also Reuben. Remember also that Rory, Ronnie, Robyn- all those names are top 100 and fast risers so it blends in with them quite a bit and has a very trendy feel which is something I regret.
I like Alexander best from your boy list as it's such a classic.

Mommabear20 · 25/08/2021 09:40

Freya 🥰 I'd personally spell it the Norse way with a silent j (Freyja) as she was the Norse god of love ❤️ absolutely love that name!

I love Alexander for a boy 😁 I feel like it's got so many options for shortening it depending on how DS feels growing up, eg: Alex, Xander, or the full Alexander if he prefers

Good luck and congratulations!
