Hoping for some inspiration for slightly more unusual girl names. DD2 due in autumn, currently living in Norway (DH is norwegian) but family in UK, so names need to kind of work in both norwegian and english.

I love longer more feminine sounding names, DD1 is Pernille (pronounced 'per-nil-leh').

Currently toying with:
Frida
Dahlia
Arianna
Linnea

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Really interesting, on pronunciation differences, I went to school with a Signe and said it was said Seen a .. that's as far as I remember, maybe we never nailed the correct way to say it ?

Linea is an own brand for House of Fraser, they pedal it as a brand, so maybe not that well known? Something to consider.

Frida - frumpy yet manly, ungainly, utterly hideous.
Dahlia - not a fan of flower names.
Arianna - areola
Linnea - pronunciation issues.

@torchh, the flower dahlia is pronounced daylia, as pp. The flower camellia is said as cam-eel-ya, and fuchsia as fewsha. That's English for you.

I've never heard anyone say Day-lia

Day-lia is the common British pronunciation of the flower of the same name, so most Brits will also pronounce the name this way too imo - but it is a relatively uncommon name here so I'm sure people would accept "Dah -lia" instead once corrected.

Etta? No idea if it's actually scandi but it feels scandi 😂

Arcticlife · 26/08/2021 19:14

Thanks everyone, I feel a bit more confident about using Linnea now. But also some lovely alternatives to consider as well.

Super helpful!! Smile
