Lilly or Lottie

I'm really struggling deciding on a name. Which one do you prefer? I've got a list of about 10 that I keep going between. Current top of the list are these two:

Lilly or Lottie?

What do you think?

As a teenager knew a Carlotta who was called Lottie. Perhaps that's an option if you don't like Charlotte

altiara · 24/08/2021 23:53

Lottie is cute for a little girl but I don’t think sounds great for an adult.
I love Lily.

FlowerTink · 24/08/2021 20:46

Lily. I also like Lucy, Luna, and Leelah.

PurpleVerbena · 24/08/2021 10:07

Lindsay is due a return, Laura and Lucy are lovely.

Other 'L' names - Louella, Leonie, Lorna, Lavinia, Lindy, Lisa

MadeOfStarStuff · 24/08/2021 08:04

Lottie

I prefer it short for Charlotte, but even on its own I prefer Lottie to Lilly (and I would spell it Lily)

bloominglovelyorange · 24/08/2021 07:33

How about Laurel

A lovely underused name

Theoldwoman · 24/08/2021 00:07

Lily, but prefer Lillian.

Lottie sounds like just a toddler name to me.

sorryforswearing · 23/08/2021 23:34

Much prefer Eve to Eva and less used too I think.

EatAllDay · 23/08/2021 23:26

Lottie Louisa or Lexi

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 23/08/2021 23:23

Lily (with a single L in the middle to avoid misspellings). While it's very popular at the moment, it's also semi-classic imo. I think Lottie as a given name is more trendy and she might get annoyed saying "It's not Charlotte".

Of your other choices I like Eva - again another classic that just happens to be popular at the moment. Luisa and Sofia are nice too but will be misspelt a lot - Louisa and Sophia are better known/used in the UK .

Buttons294749 · 23/08/2021 21:09

I like luisa but would pronounce it luisssa rather than louizzza which is how I pronounce Louisa.

Lily- in love Lilliana
Lottie - nice name, v popular. LOVE lieselotte

Eva - nice, could be short for Evangeline which I LOVE

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 23/08/2021 20:45

Lottie. I don’t mind Lily (this spelling) or even Lillie, but not Lilly for some reason.

tikoli · 23/08/2021 20:36

Oh I love Lieselotte @ActonSquirrel, as is Lotte. That's very pretty too.
I agree about Eva and Sofia being very popular names too. Oh difficult decisions! I quite like Lucy and Lara too @SionnachRua. Clearly drawn to names with L!

Alba
Liv,
Scout
Phoebe
Lucia
Sylvia
Luna
Liesl
Lotte - very close to Lottie but without being shortened and one of my favourites!
there are so many Lily's and Evie/Eva/Eve's around...

SionnachRua · 23/08/2021 19:50

Other L names off the top of my head: Lisette, Lorelei, Lucinda, Lucia, Liberty, Laurel, Liana, Leona, Leilani, Luna, Lydia, Lucille, Lara etc.

SionnachRua · 23/08/2021 19:47

Of the new names...

Alma - I like this a lot
Luisa - I'd spell it Louisa personally. It's pretty.
Eva - very dull and overused.
Lexi - nice nn but a bit...meh...by itself.
Sofia - again, very overused.

Personally I'd lean towards Luisa or Alma. You have a lot of names beginning with L! Would you think of looking at more L names to find 'the one'?

ActonSquirrel · 23/08/2021 19:45

Lieselotte if you don't like Charlotte.

Lexi isn't a name either. Alexandra or Alexis and then she will have a multitude of nicknames to choose from.

Whinge · 23/08/2021 19:45

I did think that Lily is just a bit widespread and I fear with the royal 'Lilibet' there may just be more and more.

I can't see it changing in popularity as it's been a popular name long before the new Lilibet. Also it might just be me but I didn't even make the connection until you mentioned it.

I personally wouldn't use Lottie without the longer name of Charlotte, but I do like Eva and Sofia from your list.

tikoli · 23/08/2021 19:41

Thanks all. Yes, Lily rather than double L.

I like Lottie but not really Charlotte so would just go for the shorter version. I'm still not fully sold. Some other options on the list were
Alma
Luisa
Eva
Lexi
Sofia

So hard!!

Lily - Lottie is a shortening of Charlotte.

SionnachRua · 23/08/2021 19:29

I'd alter both. Lilly to Lily and Lottie to Charlotte. Use both - Charlotte Lily is really pretty imo.

Ylvamoon · 23/08/2021 19:13

I know 3 dogs called Lottie, Lily all the way!

andadietcoke · 23/08/2021 19:11

I have a Charlotte / Lottie, and still love it.

miffmufferedmoof · 23/08/2021 19:09

Prefer Lily but definitely better spelled with one L like the flower

peaceinourtime · 23/08/2021 19:07

Both are good, I'll say but the Lily spelling over Lilly for sure.
