How many little Alex's

How popular is Alexander for a baby/toddler in your area? It's been my favourite name for years even tho I don't normally like traditional names. I'm due end of November we have our girls names sorted but boys were super stuck on and keep coming back to Alex but I don't like popular names and ifs always high in the charts but people I've spoken to don't know any little Alexs so just wondering how popular it actually is

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

There are 3 in my daughter's year. An Alexander, a Xander and an Alex.

queenatom · 25/08/2021 16:15

I know a five year old Alex(ander). Love the name, I'd seriously consider using it myself if I have a second boy.

bloominglovelyorange · 25/08/2021 10:30

I know loads of Ralph's and Raffys
Don't know any Alex's under 10 - it's such a classic, I'd use it

altiara · 24/08/2021 23:57

Quite popular I’d say and as a middle name it’s also great.
Lovely classic name. Not boring.

cactijones · 24/08/2021 20:11

Brilliant. That's our boys name settled then. Thank you all

Oh both are Alexander, on their BC.

My relative decided it was going to be Alexandra or Alexander, so would have been Alex regardless of sex.

Hekatestorch · 23/08/2021 23:17

I know 2. One a relative and one his friend from a hobby. No Alex's in his school though.

ActonSquirrel · 23/08/2021 23:16

Alexander is amazing for a boy. It has always been around in that you will be one or two in a school but never Oliver or Jack popular in that there will be 3 to 4 in every class.

bumbledeedum · 23/08/2021 23:13

Lovely name, we've got it in the family in a couple of ways too but don't know any little ones with it as a first name. Good choice.

Amdone123 · 23/08/2021 16:26

It's a lovely name. I know 2. 1 is a cousin ; he's about 65 and goes by Xander. I taught 1 years ago. He'll be about 25 now. It's a classic.

cactijones · 23/08/2021 16:21

Interesting it varies so much! Glad it's got good feedback tho I usually get eaten alive on these threads 😂 thank you it's deff our front runner

All the Alex's I know are in their teens and 20s. I picked a name I love for D's that was number 70 the year before he was born, it jumped to number 30 the year he was born and is now top 20 with both it's diminutives also being top 20 so I don't think it's worth worrying about current popularity if you love it.

Doublechins · 23/08/2021 13:37

Youngest I know is 6 then I know another who's 11 and they are the only 2.

Pootles34 · 23/08/2021 13:14

I have one! It's a really odd one - as proved by this thread, some areas have loads, some have none. We're in Yorkshire, and my Alex is the only one in his school.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 23/08/2021 12:47

I know 2, one is 5 and one 3.

whatswithtodaytoday · 23/08/2021 12:45

There's a Xander in my son's room at nursery, but no Alex. It is his middle name though! Lovely name and not super popular at the moment.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 23/08/2021 12:45

Two Alexanders I know are called Xander and one is Alex.
Still seems reasonably popular but maybe less than it was. A lot of 10+ year olds called Alex, Max and Oliver.

BertieBotts · 23/08/2021 12:45

I've got one :)

The other Alexs I know are teenagers.

Elisemum · 23/08/2021 12:43

One of my favourite boys names too. I don’t think there is any in my toddler creche. It’s not too popular at all. Lovely name !

MaisyMary77 · 23/08/2021 12:18

When my DS was born nearly 18 years ago, he was one of 5 little Alex’s on our street! All around the same age. (Military married patch, so hadn’t really got to know any of the neighbours before he was born) We all thought it was hilarious. My Alex eventually became a Xander.

OnlyFlans · 23/08/2021 12:17

Lovely name!

None in DC's primary that I know of but absolutely loads in the high school- there's 4 boys and 1 girl alex's in DC's high school form alone!

Zarene · 23/08/2021 12:01

I love it.

I know an Alessandro and an Alejandro under 3 (both called Alex), but no Alexanders.

chocolateoranges33 · 23/08/2021 12:00

I only know one Alex who is 12 and one Alexander who is 2. I've got 3DC and there is none in their circle of friends or classes at school.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 23/08/2021 11:05

I work in a school and come to think of it I don't know one Alex.. it's not boring, I like it

SMBH · 23/08/2021 11:03

I know two little Alexanders known as Alex born in the last year. But my son has a popular name too and it doesn’t bother me - lif I think a name is lovely then it’s likely others do so natural that it would be popular.
