Hannah, Louisa and… Emmeline

Becoming a bit obsessed with this Grin but after my suggestion of Marley didn’t go down too well, and my next possible contender - Talitha- had mixed reviews (and ended up being scrapped due to the pronunciation issue..)
My DH threw a name in the mix earlier that seems to tick both our boxes.
Emmeline.
He likes classic names. I like something a little different- I don’t know any little Emmelines. And I love the nickname Emmy.
I call Louisa Lulu, Hannah has an unrelated nickname to her name.

So… does it past the mumsnet test? Do you know any Emmelines? I can see it might get confused with Emily?
I do like the name Emily as well but maybe too popular?

Love Emmeline. Taught a girl with that name last year, really like it. I personally think it is infinitely nicer than Emily, which I could take or leave as a name. But each to their own.

I like it and it goes well with your other three. I don’t agree that Emily is a downgrade though - it’s another great name and also a Suffragette connection in Emily Davison!

A good alternative for emmeline could be Emmalou, Beautiful name, very soft and rolls off the tongue. We were going to use it for DD3 but we found out it was a boy so went with Sebastian.

I'm sure you'd get a lot of Emma-line /Emma-leen/Emma-lin?

It is a gorgeous name and it is on my list but I do feel it will confuse people with how to say it.

The only person I’ve corrected more than once was my gran, who kept calling me Emma-line instead of -leen. I’m sure she did it on purpose.

Emily, overused as it is is miles better and goes better with your other names.

  2. Never would it occur to me to name a child based on what posters here say. This place is super conservative slash insular. And some really grim names are weirdly popular - Vivienne, Dorothy, Ottilie.

Emmeline is great! Don't downgrade to Emily like a PP said, Emily is ever so dull. Emmeline is wonderful.

Yes I do quite like it but prefer Emerald. Much better than the utterly dull Emma or Emily, as a previous pp suggested.

Emmeline is a beautiful name, I love nn Lin or Linnie.

Emma was 80s-popular and not in a good way, Emily is so over-used it is depressing to make more of them.

My sister is an Emmeline. She used to go by Emmy in school but nobody calls her that anymore.

It's a good name with a great history. Who doesn't like Hot Chocolate and the suffragettes? Grin I met one on a plane once and she loved her name. Classic and unusual at the same time. The only issue is the nickname.
