A bit stuck for names for DD3. Opinions on the following please -

Esther
Winter

Or other suggestions. Thanks.

Tbh I wouldn't worry about the GoT link at all. The TV show fucked the finale so bad, it's totally dropped off the cultural radar and George RR Martin will probably never finish another novel. Should be safe enough in that regard.

I like imogen best by miles
Imogen has been falling in the charts for years too, about to leave top 50 and will soon be outside top 100. I actually think Winter will overtake it in the coming years. A good time to pick name Imogen

@FuckingFabulous

There was a little girl called winter in my son's playgroup. It's a ridiculous name. Ridiculous. Felt so sorry for the poor girl, thinking about all the "winter is coming" jokes she'll be subject to in secondary school.

Esther is not....bad, but I can't imagine looking at my newborn baby and giving her a name better suited to an old lady with a passion for very red lipstick.

Imogen is beautiful.

I find the hatred for Winter quite amusing - I just don't see how it's so ridiculous when Summer or April are fine, it's just unfamiliar Grin

The GoT thing did cross my mind. I think that it's a reference that adults today would pick up on, but teenagers in over 10 years' time? Unlikely I'd say - I just don't see it having the same cultural impact, especially not with that age group - there will be some other far cooler tv programme around, and what grown adult is going to make 'Winter is coming' jokes about a teenage girl?

Winter is the best if those three

Onlinedilema · 19/08/2021 06:55

Imogen.
I would only call a child Winter of they were born in the Winter. I feel the same about the name Summer.

I hate winter so that would be a no for me.

polkadotpixie · 19/08/2021 05:38

Imogen - Bland and a bit wishy washy

Esther - Really dislike, like a PP said, it's hissy and the 'sth' sound reminds me of asthma, sorry

Winter - I like this one, it's cute and her nickname could be Winnie 😊

EdgeOfACoin · 19/08/2021 05:27

Esther is my favourite.

Imogen is okay.

I don't normally like 'out there' names but I quite like Winter. I'm not sure if I would want to be called Winter myself, though. It would work as a middle name for Imogen.

CoffeeRunner · 19/08/2021 03:38

Imogen - no, a really ugly clunky sounding name to my ears.

Esther - yes, not my favourite name in the world, but it is nice.

Winter - yes but only for a December/January/February baby.

Livvielo · 19/08/2021 02:44

Winter as a middle name maybe (if born in winter!)
I’ve always liked the name Autumn.
And the season. Grin

Livvielo · 19/08/2021 02:43

Imogen is lovely and underused where I live. I like the nickname Immy as well.

Themeparklover · 19/08/2021 01:37

Imogen, as a trained scientist I would never use esther

PlainJane1000 · 19/08/2021 01:32

I like without loving all three options but feel like those names all have quite different vibes so I'm curious as to your other DDs names (understand if you prefer not to mention them) to see if there is any pattern to your style.

SionnachRua · 19/08/2021 01:05

Imogen.

Esther is one of the worst names going imo, it's a horrible, hissy sound.
I like the idea of Winter but I don't think I'd like to be called it, which is always a dealbreaker for me.

When Spring or Summer are acceptable.

...Is Spring acceptable? Autumn and Summer yes, I've met people with those names. Never heard of a Spring.

Buttercup54321 · 19/08/2021 00:40

Esther.
If I chose Winter then Id spell it Wynter. But it wouldnt be my choice.
Heather
Emily
Isla
Iona
Esmae

AbsolutelyPatsy · 19/08/2021 00:39

Chickpea22 · 19/08/2021 00:18

MrsPsmalls · 19/08/2021 00:17

I love them all

notangelinajolie · 19/08/2021 00:15

Esther

NoSquirrels · 19/08/2021 00:14

Similar to Esther and Imogen (imo)

Rosalind
Beatrice
Emilia

If you wanted Welsh with a wintry vibe
Eirlys or Eira.

unnumber · 19/08/2021 00:10

Like Esther and Imogen. Hestia jumped into my head as another possibility.

NoSquirrels · 19/08/2021 00:05

Ooh, I love them all.

Esther is a perennial favourite of mine. I think if you’ve got another Welsh girls’ name it also has a vibe that would go with it.

Imogen I love too. I would only choose Winter (which I do love!) if my other girls names had a modern/unusual bent, and from what you’ve said it doesn’t sound like they do?

PricklesTheHedgehog · 18/08/2021 23:57

Imogen - lovely
Esther - v nice
Winter - of discontent - no

adeleh · 18/08/2021 23:56

Love both Imogen and Esther.
