Just that really!

If I had to choose I’d say Octavia but I’m sorry I don’t like either. Cosima reminds me of shapewear for some reason.

They're both lovely names. I slightly prefer Octavia.

WildCherryBlossom · 20/08/2021 08:52

I've always loved Cosima. I knew a gorgeous one years ago. It was on my long list once upon a time, along with Cosmo for a boy. (Neither made it past DH's first list edit.)

Octavia is slightly harsher sounding sounding, also the car...

How about Ophelia, Miranda, Minerva, Ramona, Melissa....

brushlaptop · 20/08/2021 08:41

Definitely not planning on 8 children 😂

Is cosimo even an name??

Yes, an Italian one. Cosimo for a boy, Cosima for a girl. The Medici mentioned upthread was Cosimo.

jeanne16 · 20/08/2021 07:45

Names do get shortened. Would you like her to be called Cossi or Occi?

Bodgers · 20/08/2021 07:30

I would only name an 8th child Octavia. And as I'm not planning a small army of children, it's Cosima for me. Love it

PearlyBird · 20/08/2021 06:04

Cosima

HeronLanyon · 20/08/2021 06:02

Both are Uber posh but assume that’s what you want.
Cosima di Medici is my reference and so always thought of in mix of italian and English accent and never know which to use out loud.
Both very Italian and not commonly used here so I’d assume strongly that there was italian family link.
Congrats op

Ritascornershop · 20/08/2021 05:25

I’ve always loved Cosima, it makes me think of the cosmos, quite magical and starry.

silverstrawberry · 20/08/2021 05:21

Octavia is lovely

douliket · 20/08/2021 05:04

Ophelia, Octavia and Cordelia go to the park 😳😳😳

I'm thinking this is a piss-take

brushlaptop · 19/08/2021 15:56

Also love Ophelia and Cordelia! I have friends with babies called that though so can't use :(

CallMeNutribullet · 19/08/2021 15:25

Too try hard wannabe posh

DillonPanthersTexas · 19/08/2021 15:16

They both sound at home when called out at Waitrose or Whole Foods.

MyMagicStars · 19/08/2021 15:05

Octavia is prettier. How about Cordelia?

Rosesviolets · 19/08/2021 14:57

I know you didn't ask for alternatives but have you considered Ophelia as an alternative to Octavia?

brushlaptop · 19/08/2021 12:48

@MojoJojo71 I love Ottavia! Thanks for that!!

Neither, both sound like names that Hyacinth in keeping up appearances would have called her children if she has been having them! Octavia is probably what that idiot Rees-mogg will call his 8th and Cosima sounds like Aldi washing powder, plus reminds me of Nigella. If you have a cut glass accent and live in a naice part of the south east you might just carry it off but otherwise I think it might sound a bit ridiculous. And in said naice part of the south east you’ll probably find that there are hundreds of them and it’s very predictable.

Not keen on Cosima but I like Octavia (never heard of Amanda from motherland).

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 19/08/2021 07:43

@douliket agreed.

Both sound very try hard in my view. I would also put a name like Persephone in with that. I don't think octavia sounds elegant at all. I can imagine Amanda from motherland calling her DDS these 2 names and it would be done as a piss take.

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 19/08/2021 07:40

I like Octavia.

TheRosariojewels · 19/08/2021 07:38

Cosima

Ducksarenotmyfriends · 19/08/2021 07:35

Cosima sounds like a brand of panty liners. Octavia is ok, just very posh and a little pretentious. Better than Cosima though.

GoodnightGrandma · 19/08/2021 07:31

Neither.
