What does Annabelle remind you of?

DH really likes the name Annabelle. I'm open to it, but I'm trying to figure out if it has some kind of negative connotation in the UK.

We both grew up abroad, which is why I'm afraid of missing some kind of negative connotation (like, I don't know, maybe there used to be catfood called Annabelle or something).

There seems to be a doll in the UK called baby Annabell, but that doesn't put me off. Should it?

Any other reason not to give that name to a child growing up here?

The creepy doll horror film. It’s my teenage cousin’s name and she’s recently started to get comments at school about it Sad

percheron67 · 18/08/2021 15:48

Tennis - Annabel Croft.

Violetlavenders · 18/08/2021 15:29

The Annabelle spelling is awful - frilly and associated with the horror film. It's also pronounced AnnaBELLE.

Annabel is much nicer! And works most ch better for English speakers

The doll brand, though that wouldn't deter me personally.

Turtles4543 · 18/08/2021 13:00

Scary doll

35andThriving · 18/08/2021 13:00

I like it.

ApplyWithin · 17/08/2021 23:31

I think of a beautiful name (Annabel) ruined by the frilly French ending (Annabelle).

AllTheSingleLadiess · 17/08/2021 23:27

Horror film not horrible film

AllTheSingleLadiess · 17/08/2021 23:27

The baby doll connection is fine imo but I think of the horrible film which is pretty famous

Foxhasbigsocks · 17/08/2021 23:20

Baby Annabelle doll

MauveMagnolia · 17/08/2021 23:19

The toy doll Baby Annabelle (not the horror version)
A 1970s keys in the bowl swinger.

Another vote for the creepy doll. The horror film it’s part of is actually a franchise with a lot of big releases planned so I’d be aware that it might become quite linked to that - but only in the same way as Freddy or Jason!

MrsPsmalls · 17/08/2021 23:13

Croft

SequinsandStiIettos · 17/08/2021 23:13

2014 original 2017 prequel 2019 sequel

I personally wouldn't with that spelling, same as I'd never use Chucky.
Annabel, Belle or Isabelle would be my choice.

SequinsandStiIettos · 17/08/2021 23:10

erm...

What does Annabelle remind you of?
MissDollyMix · 17/08/2021 23:09

It's a beautiful name. Personally much prefer the spelling Annabel, but if that doesn't work in your native language then Annabelle is fine too. There is a horror movie, Annabelle, but meh... it's not that good, it will be forgotten in time....

BettyAndFrank · 17/08/2021 22:59

Dn name…nn Belle

AnnaSW1 · 17/08/2021 22:56

It just makes me think of baby Annabell doll

Ihaveaquestion77 · 17/08/2021 22:55

Lovely name, was on our list. Elegant, feminine, classic.

Had no idea there was a horror film!

My 4 year old does have a baby Annabel doll now I come to think about it but it's not the first thing I think of.

GalaxyGirl24 · 17/08/2021 22:51

Baby Annabelle doll - sweet name though

Stroopwaffle5000 · 17/08/2021 22:31

Scary horror movie doll, sorry 😞

blablablafoghorn · 17/08/2021 22:27

Annabel is a lovely name. Bella for short also is lovely.

dogfishing · 17/08/2021 22:25

@Knittingupastorm

The most popular spelling of the name in my home country is Annabell. Would that work in the UK?

That would definitely be the least common of the ways to spell it.
I prefer the spelling Annabelle, however that’s because that’s how my best friend since I was 4 spells it so anything else just looks wrong to me!

Thank you! Seems like it has to be spelled Annabelle to work in both countries.
