I think Oscar or Vincent are much nicer than Finlay

WhoppingBigBackside · 19/08/2021 08:21

I prefer Finlay to Oscar. If the name being common is an issue, you could use an unusual middle name.
e.g. John Xerxes Smith

Namechangin101 · 18/08/2021 22:24

Thank you for all the replies! It seems that Finlay is preferred but very common. Its not a huge issue but we have a very common surname so worry there could be problems with other boys in school having the same name.

I know I said no suggestions but what do you think of Oscar?

@Longdistance

Can’t stand Finlay. Too many boys with that name being shouted at ‘Fin! Fin! Fin! Fin!…’

Vincent can be Vincy too.

My objection to the name Noah is similar.

Nice quiet stroll in the park and you'll hear a mother or a child screaming 'NO_AAAAAAARGH!'

Buttercup54321 · 18/08/2021 00:53

Like Vincent, but not Vinnie (vinegar)
Finlay is better.

DramaAlpaca · 17/08/2021 22:58

I've recently decided I like Vincent, not Vinnie or Vince though.

I also like Finlay but there's a lot of them around.

Vincent is kind of cool, so I'll vote for that.

Tallisimo · 17/08/2021 22:45

Finlay for me. I find Vincent very old fashioned.

Violetlavenders · 17/08/2021 22:41

A Finn is a person from Finland 🇫🇮

Finlay was so so popular a few years back that I’m not keen but like Finn.

Really dislike the name Vincent and especially Vince. Vin is just about ok.

So Finlay.

Sh05 · 17/08/2021 21:39

Finlay
Vince brings to mind a thuggish sort of character

Seesawmummadaw · 17/08/2021 21:37

Vincent because I love pulp fiction!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/08/2021 21:35

Like some pp I like classic Vincent, but really dislike Vinnie (reminds me of a sterotypical mobster in TV/films). So if you are set on the nn I'd have to pick trendy Finlay as at least nn Finn sounds slightly nicer imo - I'd be prepared for Finley/Finlay confusion though as both spellings seem well used.

flowerbus · 17/08/2021 20:27

Vincent

Barwell76 · 17/08/2021 20:27

Finlay
Dont like Vincent/Vinnie at all.

SaffieSoph · 17/08/2021 20:25

I prefer Vincent/Vinnie. Finlay is too popular IMO.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/08/2021 19:40

Finlay

ShingleBeach · 17/08/2021 19:28

Vincent.

More edgy.

LittleGwyneth · 17/08/2021 19:18

Finlay

Livvielo · 17/08/2021 19:08

Finlay.
We like Finn for a boy so it’s a nice nickname for Finlay x

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 17/08/2021 19:03

Finlay, no contest

StevieNix · 17/08/2021 19:02

Vincent! But I like both

sozzleb1983 · 17/08/2021 18:55

Finlay xxx

Cbeebiesrehab · 17/08/2021 18:48

Strong dislike Vinnie and Vincent now reminds me of the ventriloquist dummies out of Toy Story 4…which were creepy in my eyes!

So due to that, Finlay.

AlmostSummer21 · 17/08/2021 18:47

Finlay, by a country mile!
