BJ initials with MIDDLE name

I know it's been done to death, but I'm wondering what your opinions are on initials spelling 'BJ' with first and middle name?
We're set on using 'Joyce' as middle name for our second daughter as it's a family name, but I really like a few first names starting with 'B'.
Is this a viable idea or should I just let it go?

Our surname starts with 'H', so first name/last name initials would be 'BH'. With middle name it would be 'BJH'.

Kids are creative fuckers. I went to school with a lad called Ben and his middle name was Louis, he was called Blowie the entirety of high school.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 22/08/2021 19:16

Joyce itself is quite a name.

I definitely wouldn’t added the BJ.

I would change the middle name or the first name, what is the chosen name?

gogohm · 22/08/2021 19:12

When you said bj I thought if bj in Mash then Boris Johnson. I can't see how it is an issue

PalmarisLongus · 22/08/2021 18:11

My initials are PJ

That was close enough to BJ for the kids to use it against me.

DoTheMaccaroni · 22/08/2021 18:07

I wouldn’t worry about it. BJ Novak has done well for himself 🤷🏼‍♀️

Crunchymum · 22/08/2021 17:07

My DP is a BJ (BJC) and he didn't want me to give DD1 the same middle initials as him, due to the BJ issue.

Lou98 · 22/08/2021 00:10

I knew a girl at school with the first and middle initials being BJ, she was constantly teased about it and it really got her down.

While it shouldn't matter, unfortunately, kids can be cruel. They may go through their full life with no one ever mentioning it or it might be something that they get teased about all through school (maybe even beyond).

For me, I personally wouldn't want to put my child in that position for the sake of a name. I'd look at other first names that don't start with B

Newchances · 22/08/2021 00:06

Middle names are important where I live as there is not a lot of surnames, therefore everyone needs a middle name too to differentiate there was 2 other girls in my secondary school with my name so we were called first name, middle initial

Elspethelf · 22/08/2021 00:05

I used to work with a guy named Beejay, I don't know how it was for him at school because that's not how I knew him, but honestly it was just his name and no one made an issue of it. I think its not a big deal.

Notanotherusernamenow · 22/08/2021 00:04

My DH has those initials and he was called Blow Job Surname at school, but it was in jest / said with affection (akin to calling someone a dickhead or prat in affection). He went to an all-boys catholic school and he’s certainly not traumatised by his nickname (he had other nicknames as well), but it helped he was an extremely good sportsman in a school which valued it, so he was naturally above being bullied.

Peakypolly · 22/08/2021 00:03

My DS has B first name and J middle name - it has never caused any problems.

Lemonsyellow · 22/08/2021 00:02

You are overthinking this. The initials are BH. It’s fine.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 21/08/2021 23:59

Sorry, I wasn't clear!

Of course you could have had two initials.

Three initials were the norm. Some had four, mainly children with double-barrelled surnames.

It would have been quite acceptable to have two initials.

But I would say 80 or 90% of the children had three and the remainder had four.

“My children had their initials embroidered in large letters onto the outside of all sports kit clothing. Three initials were expected.”

(Sorry for bumping this thread after 4 days!) I don’t have a middle name, what would the many kids with only two initials do in circs where three are expected? Confused

PumpkinKlNG · 17/08/2021 17:12

It’s really about whether you want to risk it, maybe some people have never had it mentioned but I personally wouldn’t take the risk, I know I wouldn’t want BJ initials so wouldn’t put it on a child

PricklesTheHedgehog · 17/08/2021 12:21

My children had their initials embroidered in large letters onto the outside of all sports kit clothing. Three initials were expected.

They are at university now, so not that long ago. The school still has this system.

MangosteenSoda · 17/08/2021 12:15

I met someone with these initials who actually goes by BJ. She’s a nice, older Canadian lady. When people are introduced to her, they are invariably Shock

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 17/08/2021 12:12

Do people really choose baby names according to what email address they might have at university?!?!

If their future hypothetical classmates are such dedicated bullies that they would research exam papers, then there would be very little you could do to protect your child.

Just choose names you like.

mistermagpie · 17/08/2021 12:06

@Marcipex

Don’t do it. Really please don’t. I’m speaking as one who knows :(
It's weird, nobody has ever mentioned my BJ initials but obviously it's been an issue for you, so maybe it would be a problem in some places?

I wasn't sure, that's why I'm asking! We're still looking at other names. Might be best to steer clear off it. Funnily enough my brother's initials are BS, which I always thought is short for bullsh*t Grin!
