Bridie has been my favourite female name for a long time. Ann is the middle name, do you think it flows well? What are your thoughts about it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

unfortunately as a scot 'bridie' is a meat pastry so I would find calling my child it odd. I suppose on reading other comments it would be similar to calling a child agnes as it is very old fashioned.

Anyway for me childs names is such a personal thing so go for what you like

To me Bridie is very much a familiarisation of Bridget and personally I prefer Bridget

I don't hate it but agree that it sounds quite dated

Bridie 😮
I too live in Ireland and it's a name like Doris, Enid, Gladys would be in UK - an old fashioned, old lady name.
It's nice if it's coming back.

Years ago my grandparents had an old 45 record of the song Come Down the Mountain Katie Daly - I really thought then that Katie was an awful old lady name but it came back into fashion and is lovely. Smile

Love it. Will she be Bridget or just Bridie.
Without disrespect but I disagree with PP about Bridget being frumpy. To me it sounds elegant and powerful

That’s my impression too @Brimorion (uk)

Brimorion · 15/08/2021 11:56

In Ireland, Bridie (generally a pet form) of Bridget/Brigid) is one of the unreclaimed, frumpy, deeply-old-fashioned old lady names. Equivalent of, I don’t know, Gladys? Beryl? My mother is a Bridie, now in her late 70s, and has always hated it. She would be completely baffled as to why anyone would saddle a newborn with it, but perhaps it codes differently in the UK?

It's very old-fashioned sounding.

Beautiful 😍

MarkKing39 · 15/08/2021 11:49

I like it

I think it’s lovely! I know an (older) Bridie and her surname has a similar sound to Ann - it flows really well together.
