What do you think of Clive?
Is it old fashioned?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SunShinesBrightly · 13/08/2021 09:21

Kevin isnt so bad though, is it?

Yes. Yes it is OP! 😅

No to: Kevin Roy, Cliff, Ken, Keith, Wilf, Ray, Nigel, Terry, Barry, Alan, Colin, Clive.

Chickoletta · 13/08/2021 09:16

Baby Clive! 😂😂😂

Volterra · 13/08/2021 09:13

It’s on my family tree, I’m not convinced. But then I don’t think my judgement is to be trusted at the moment and too much looking back in history is skewing my perception a bit as seeing Sybilla on family tee no longer has me thinking WTF and I was thinking maybe it isn’t too bad the other day.

Ladyface · 13/08/2021 09:07

Clive Standen from Vikings
Clive Myrie

Athrawes · 13/08/2021 08:59

I know a VERY attractive Clive, mid 50's. I manage to overlook his name.

onelittlefrog · 13/08/2021 08:48

I also know a non-binary/ trans young person who chose the name Clive so it can't be that unfashionable.

onelittlefrog · 13/08/2021 08:46

I think it's one of those names that used to be old fashioned but is coming back and is now a bit quirky and fun.

I like it.

CoalCraft · 13/08/2021 08:45

It is old fashioned but I like it. It's hard to imagine an unpleasant person called Clive.

rainbowstardrops · 13/08/2021 08:36

I'd call a pet Clive but not a baby

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/08/2021 07:43

Clive is in the same boat as Roy, Cliff, Ken, Keith, Wilf, Ray.

Ray and Wilf are already firmly back in, so they others won't be long now. I've also heard of a few babies/young children called Kenny. Those of us of a certain generation balk at the name Keith now, but K-names are very popular, as is Ethan, so there's no reason why much younger parents who are unaware of the 'baggage' of the name wouldn't choose it. They might even combine the two and produce some baby Keithans Grin

HeronLanyon · 13/08/2021 07:42

I think ‘Clive of India’ (what he did before India who knows !) what he did in India doesn’t bear thinking about I’m guessing (can’t remember).
Clive Bull
Clive Dunn.

It’s actually a great name but my own mind isn’t ready for it to come back yet. When it was more common, I wonder what it ‘meant’ what people thought of it.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 13/08/2021 07:28

You’re probably ten years ahead of the curve but it will be back in fashion soon enough.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/08/2021 02:39

Sorry OP, Kevin is as "bad" as Clive (or at least as typically middle aged) to me. Colin may be slightly different in it's native Ireland, but I would say that edges towards middle aged elsewhere in the UK as well. They are all Nigel, Barry, Alan sorts of names - in another 20 years they could come back but they sound dated now.

Clifford is a bit more Grandpa - but not quite enough to be hipster cool yet imo (unlike say Raymond/Ray and Leonard for instance). Clyde was never very popular as far as I know - apart from for pets named after Bonnie and Clyde!, so I suppose you might get away with that (as long as you don't live near the River!)

PlainJane1000 · 13/08/2021 02:33

I'm sure this is the reaction that Arthur got 10 years ago and now look! Clive will have its day again (not on a DC of mine though!)

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 13/08/2021 02:15

Oh hell no. As an Aussie, I beg of you to google Clive Palmer, because that is what springs to mind for most Aussies.

urbanbuddha · 13/08/2021 02:10

Kevin is interesting.

ItzANoFromMe · 13/08/2021 02:10

"Colin 😆
Not Colon.

ItzANoFromMe · 13/08/2021 02:10

Awful. Along with Alan, Ian, Nigel, Trevor, Colon, Rupert, Cecil, Keith, Kevin. I can't understand the appeal AT ALL.

BabyRace · 13/08/2021 01:54

I know (adult) brothers named Kevin and Clive.

Just don't.

ElizabethTudor · 13/08/2021 01:27

Clive, Clifford, Kevin and Colin are not yet due a comeback IMHO

Blondiney · 13/08/2021 01:26
Grin
Buttercup54321 · 13/08/2021 01:21

Maybe not then . Athough its due a comeback, along with Clifford and Colin.
Had a cat called Clyde lol.
Kevin isnt so bad though, is it?

toolazytothinkofausername · 12/08/2021 21:21

I like it :D

LondonElle · 12/08/2021 21:07

I hate it sorry.. reminds me of a 60 year old man.

AlohaMolly · 12/08/2021 20:57

I know one Clive and he is 44. I’ve known him for ten years and he is, inexplicably, the sexiest, most ruggedly down to earth charming man that I’ve ever met. I still couldn’t call my child Clive.
